“Wonderful Stay!!”
Reviewed 7 February 2012

We stayed in Gadds Townhouse for my birthday, and this being our first visit to Durham we were very pleased with the central location of the hotel, to enable us to explore the wonderful city!
The moment we entered the hotel, the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful! Nothing was too much trouble.
Our room was very impressive and no expense spared on the room finish, and most of all clean and comfortable.
We chose to eat in the hotel restaurant, and were not disappointed! the food was amazing and in a lovely relaxed atmosphere made my night really special.
All in all, our stay was a very comfortable, and luxurious experience and cant wait to return!!

This was our 3rd stay at the Fallen Angel (now called Gadd's Townhouse). We were interested to try one of the refurbished rooms. We stayed in Ruby which was beautifully furnished and decorated with a four poster bed and free standing bath. It has atmospheric lighting but this translates as too dark when trying to get ready to go out. The bathroom was very small with nowhere to put your toiletries but had a monsoon shower and heated floor which was nice.
The hotel has a cosy bar and restaurant. We did not eat there because of the few choices for vegetarian diners but it seemed popular. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and was very good. The hotel is located perfectly for seeing the sights of Durham and within walking distance of shops, restaurants and bars.
We found all of the staff to be very pleasant and would recommend this hotel for special occasions.

Room Tip: For a really special experience try one of the rooms with a hot tub. Check out the website to see e...

Our stay was just for one night in the cream room with the hot tub. The room had recently been refurbished to great taste and it was immaculate. Breakfast and service was good. We viewed all the rooms while on our visit, we recommend this hotel and we will definitely visit again. Thai restaurant Zen is a must the food was Devine and we can't wait to return. No negatives about this hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Fallen Angel Hotel (now renamed to the Gadds Town House) in January 2011 for our anniversary. We booked the Le Jardin room, mostly based on the fact it had it's own hot tub and sauna.

Upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome and taken to our room – the Le Jardin room isn't apart of the main hotel, it's in a wooden hut-like building out the back which I was a bit disappointed about. The room was lovely – linens and bathroom were clean, with off-kilter decor as it's the 'garden' room. The astroturf carpet was a bit weird to walk around on but still, a nice, comfy room which is a lot more spacious than the photograph on the website gives away.

The hot tub was clean and we were provided with robes and Crocs for access to the deck area, but the deck area of the room isn't exactly private. We were overlooking someone's garden, and their own deck/terrace area was looking onto our deck entirely. Luckily, we didn't see anyone around but we would have been really offput if there was. There definitely isn't a view over the river either! Despite this, it was still a nice touch to be able to relax with a drink in the hot tub. My boyfriend enjoyed the sauna, but it does take a little while to heat up.

The shower in the bathroom was really high-tech, it had various jets/shower heads and even a control panel for the settings. It actually took a little figuring out to be able to take advantage of all of the different gadgets, like activating the steam jet.

There were tea/coffee facilites but we would have appreciated a minibar in the room! We brought some drinks back to the room because of this and it would have been nice to keep them chilled.

Overall, we really enjoyed the room but for me, it was lacking a certain factor that would have made it truly great. If we were to visit again we'd probably go for the Premiere room because it looked a bit more cosy, as well as having the hot tub!

Room Tip: Hot tub is great in the Le Jardin room, but not exactly private!

Myself and my husband stayed here for a night just before Christmas as a treat for his 30th birthday. We'd seen it on Four in a bed and always liked the sound of the Premier Room, and we know the new owners are refurbishing the rooms and getting rid of some of the themes so we wanted to stay there before we missed our chance. The room was lovely, the cinema screen was great (with amazingly comfortable reclining seats!) and we really enjoyed our stay despite the few problems we had. Unfortunately, the hot tub was not working properly, and we only managed to get in for half an hour before the temperature got too cold and we couldn't use it anymore for the rest of the stay. We phoned twice to try and get it sorted and they did try to help but it didn't work. This was a real disappointment for us as this was one of the main reasons we booked this room. To be fair to them, we did receive a discount on the cost because of this. I have to say, the shower was another disappointment as all the bells and whistles were extremely complicated, the steam thing did not seem to work at all, just squirt cold water at your feet - not ideal! Also the water drained very slowly which meant you couldn't stay in long without having a flood on your hands. However, despite all of this, I have to say, it was a lovely stay. All the staff we dealt with were extremely friendly and polite, the room and the bathroom were beautifully done, and the bed was amazingly comfortable. Breakfast also was delicious. I would recommend this b&b for special occasions, we really enjoyed ourselves.

Room Tip: Look on the website - all the rooms are different.

We arrived in durham after a long and tiring day and as we passed the restaurant we thought we would try to eat there as it was relatively early-no problem- it was filing up later with a business party and early Christmas meals but the y produced a meal without any hoha at all-the kitcen is almost central to the restau. but not visible. food -shared antipasto starter was excellent, fish main fine steak main I was told was excellent all beautifully presented. Charming waitress and receptionist. Decor a bit strange-awful lot of fringing-owner thought the place used to be a house of ill repute so the decor is a bit brothel in a nightmare-(though I'm using my imagination here)I would definitely eat there again
