Arrived for a pre-booked stay in busy graduation week to find that the owner had double-booked. We can only suggest you are very careful about your reservation as nothing was confirmed in writing or by email, and the 2 telephone calls we made were not reliable. We were helped to alternative accommodation, so all was well in the end. But we nearly had to book a hotel 15 miles away!

Only had a one night stay but I will certainly try to return to Chestnut Villa. Lesley is a lovely host and made us feel so welcome and even our Border Collie was made to feel at home. The house is lovely and so is the garden and given a special feel with Lesley's fine collection of paintings throughout the house. The bed was so comfortable and it's such a peaceful location so we got a great night's sleep and there was a delicious breakfast to get our day off to a hearty start. I'd like to keep this B&B a secret but it deserves to be renowned for the treasure that it is.

My husband, friend, and I spent two nights with Lesley, the loveliest hostess ever. Don't know which we liked better, the delicious breakfasts with homemade jams and fruit, or watching the bunnies and pheasant in the English garden out our upper window in the evening. We were welcomed with tea and cookies, and relaxed conversation ranging from art, to history, to personal reminiscences. The rooms were comfortable and there was the Stone Bridge Pub and Restaurant just up the road for meals. Lesley urged us to visit Durham Cathedral, and it is definitely worth the visit - a sense of vast history leavening a truly sacred place.

This is the second time I have stayed at Chestnut Villa and once again the welcome by Lesley was very warm and she made a pot of tea on arrival which was a nice touch. The room was perfect with a very comfy bed and the decor was modern, but still a traditional room. Very quiet as well. The breakfast was delicious and I particularly enjoyed the bowl of fresh fruit. Added bonus was the Stonebridge Inn at just a couple of minutes walk, so I had a nice dinner there. Would definitely recommend. Good value for money too.

Lesley was so welcoming to us. We felt very well looked after. She provided an excellent breakfast. We enjoyed Lesley's art in the breakfast room.

We stayed in a family room, but needed to use a travel cot for our daughter. There was not much space once this was put up - but we were fine for the night. The room was very comfortable and well provisioned. We had the exclusive use of a separate bathroom.

Her directions were very clear, so it was easy to find the B&B, and there was off-road parking. It was a short drive into the city centre.

My son, wife and I stayed here for one night and the owner went out of er way to make us feel at home. Plenty of offsite parking with beautifully kept gardens. The room was lovely with our own bathroom and after showing us to our room, we were welcomed with a pot of tea and biscuits downstairs in a beautiful period room.

Beds were comfortable, the room light warm, and airy, and the location was great - being just a 5 minutes drive from the center of Durham, yet in a lovely rural setting.

As mentioned by others, breakfast was great (fresh fruit salad, cereals, cooked vegetarian breakfast, tea/coffee, etc.) and we will certainly stay again when returning to Durham

Me and my two friends stayed here for 2 nights. The proprietor was extremely friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble! The food was excellent and the room, were three of us ladies stayed was very clean, comfortable and recommended. The walk into Durham along the river is lovely from this B and B.
