“Zen, if you like spicy in a slow relaxed atmosphere then go!!!.”

Yet again we have dined there this weekend and guess what ? excellent yet again.
If your looking for a fast food outlet forget it,its a place to relax and enjoy the ambience with good company, tucked nicely away from the mainstream crowds.
Prices are realistic in todays market, take a look at their website.
There are 2 sittings, i think from 7-9 ,then 9 till?,we allways opt for the latter.
A wide selection of starters and meals to suit most peoples taste even if your not adventurist.
First impressions, the layout is on the verge of quite upmarket and spotless.
Settle in and you will be greeted by the staff who wil make you feel at home without being overbearing.
Yes, at peak times sevice can be quite slow, but isnt most places?.
Prices do vary between the daytime menu and evening,if you want to try it first before arranging a night out ,try the daytime menu before 6pm.
To sum up,if you are like me that likes a well presented meal with a nice, comfortable surrounding,it hits all the right notes.
P.S. for those who like it hot [nothing like curry hot] yet flavoursome, try the jungle chicken,[i allways ask for seafood instead of chicken] its currently not on the evening menu, only the daytime, but its no problem to order.
This dish just makes your tastebuds go WOW!!!!,then the different flavours shine through, lemon grass, galangal, chilli, fish sauce,i could go on,oh i want some more now!!. its addictive.
Would i recommend it, without a doubt yes.

Durham has a surfeit of Italian and Indian restaurants, but we fancied Thai food. Luckily, we happened upon Zen.

My guess is that the restaurant hasn't been open too long - decor is fresh and modern.

We booked for dinner on a snowy Sunday evening, and recieved a warm welcome.

The menu is more fusion than Thai, with good choices. We thought the prices were a bit high, but when we saw the food we changed our minds - the prices definitely reflect the food.

We had a mixed started - fairly traditional Thai with stuffed crab claws, satays and squid. Beautifully presented in a bamboo steamer and plenty for 2 people.

Our main courses were green curry and a chicken, chilli and basil stir fry. Loved the rice in it's banana leaf hat, and the main course servings were huge, even by my standards (being a lady of traditional build).

The ambience is club meets restaurant, low light, dance music, nice decor.

We would definitely visit again. And, on a side note, check out the view of the cathedral from the end of the street.

Arrived without a booking and it was busy but still managed to get a table, and the service was good, and the food was amazing. Price wise it is value for money especially the lunch. Drinks are quite expensive but overall it was great and have been back many times since.
