“oldest and the best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

The oldest Italian restaurant in Durham- and the best.
We have been going for 30+ years and it's always great!
Extensive menu and "specials". Really good quality and quantity.
Good wine list.
Excellent service from friendly staff.

“Grazie per una meravigliosa esperienza culinaria”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2013

Myself and my other half visited this lovely little Italian restaurant on Saturday night during an overnight stay in Durham. There was a multitude of restaurants to choose from but I'm so glad my hubby chose this Italian gem. Don't let the outside put you off as first impressions from the outside aren't great however once you climb the stairs a lovely friendly welcome awaits.
It was very busy (always a good sign) but we were seated quickly and our drinks were delivered promptly. Although its a small restaurant we didn't feel over crowded by fellow diners, and clever use of mirrors made the area feel spacious. Personally I feel it lacked a little in its decor style but its spotlessly clean and has a relaxed and friendly vibe so that more than made up for it.
Lots of choice on the menu and our squid and focaccia starters were delicious. My husband chose a chicken pasta dish which was excellent and my pollo al pepe was to die for! Juicy tender chicken with a superb sauce, mouthwatering. We were stuffed by this point however couldn't resist the homemade tiramisu which was simply scrumptious. Portions were generous and prices were very reasonable, service was friendly, efficient but not overly fussy, just perfect. A three course meal with wine was £60 and worth every penny. We will be back soon!

“Food is lovely but use to be amazing!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2013 via mobile

Firstly my husband and I couldn't go into Durham without a visit here on a Saturday lunch time. In recent months we haven't really bothered - our last meal was nice but nothing compared to what we have experienced here before. If the standard previously wasn't so high we probably wouldn't have felt so let down. The steak with the Diane sauce - ummm always perfectly cooked - all fish dishes are wonderful and you can taste the freshness of the fish... Very authentic Italian restaurant with a special atmosphere... The owner is so friendly and staff always make to feel very welcome - we will go back when the opportunity arises again just hope the standard of food has returned to its former glory next time! :-)

We've been there on a day out and tried this restaurant for the very first time. The food was very good, even though it was a bit on the pricy side. We'll come back when the occasion arises.
