Had my wedding here on a Thursday in August and stayed for another two nights. It was great, they upgraded us to a feature suite with the bathroom hidden inside the closet and everyone, including my wedding coordinators alison and pamela were attentive to my needs. My guests were all impressed wi their rooms in the courtyard, each decorated differently with four poster beds. The food at reception was average, with the exception of the duck terrine and toffee which were excellent!! But for the price tag, it was very good. Te library bar serves bar food and high tea, and breakfast at the black knight restaurant was good. All in all, it was great.

Room Tip: Upgrade to feature room!

we came here for lunch after being told about it, and the website looked great, upon arrival we were surprised to see it not that busy, ok,it was a monday afternoon, but still, with an apparent great reputation you feel its unusual for a place to be quiet, anyway, we were shown our cosy table, and we both ordered the roast of the day lunch, which was tasty it was fresh and tasty, but because it wasnt that busy and it was kind of dark, whilst the building itself is beautiful and that is worth a visit just to experience it, the lunch meant that its unlikely i would go back as it wasnt special enough, perhaps a special occasion restaurant or a place id take my friends just so they can say they dined in a castle,

Stayed for a couple of nights whilst visiting the area, The castle is fantastic full of history and the staff really friendly without being pushy.
We stayed in a courtyard room and it was well furnished with a very comfortable bed,
The breakfasts are good and filling especially the Sir Ralph breakfast.
We did'nt eat in the restaurant so can not comment on the evening meal,
On the down side the lighting is a bit low in the corridors and rooms,

My wife and I visited Lumley Castle for her Dad's 80th Birthday celebrations in the Banquet Hall. We were a bit apprehensive prior to going but on the evening we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The Castle itself is wonderful and well worth a visit. We gathered in an underground Bar, that again is very impressive. Once all the guests had arrived we were summoned by 'THE LORD CHAMBERLAIN' who played the part with full gusto and was really very impressive throughout the whole evening. He had a good line of patter and really engaged with the guests. he was joined by others, including the serving staff who again were very good throughout the evening. This is a Team effort and we were very pleased with all they did. Once inside the Hall the 1st of 5 dishes arrived..I won't go into detail as that is part of the 'magic' of the banqueting experience. Suffice to say, we had plenty to eat - the food was well presented and delicious. We certainly thought it was worth the value we had paid for the experience. throughout the evening you are entertained by the Lord Chamberlain and his staff - again I won't go into detail, but they are a credit to the Castle and we were delighted with this. Only one small crit - sitting for 2 1/2 hours on a wooden bench was proving a bit uncomfortable - but the benches are part of the experience I suppose! All in all we had a thoroughly good evening and would be more than pleased to go back and maybe eat in the restaurant as well.

We stayed in Lumley for a wedding over the summer. This beautiful castle was just perfect for such a happy occasion. We have been twice before, and were pleased that the staff were as helpful and professional as ever. Tony Gill the duty Manager there and his staff went out of their way to ensure our room was suitable for our needs (for 2 adults 2 children). Thank you Lumley, for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Ask to have a look round first...many of the rooms are unique with hidden bookcase doorways or try the walk in wardrobe!
