We held our wedding ceremony/wedding breakfast at Lumley Castle in Oct for 11 guests and have to say it was excellent.
We were given a wedding co-ordinator who helped us through the day! The service we received from our first meeting, all the way through to the wedding day was superb. Everything was thought of and it was excellently executed.
We cannot fault Lumley Castle and their need to provide a service that is 5 star! Whatever we or our guests asked for was catered for.
We had a hire of one of the smaller rooms to hold our wedding breakfast and the 3 course meal was lovey- so well served and tasted delicious!
We were given a complimentary castle feature bedroom for our wedding night and what a fab room!!! the bath/shower were up three steps with a curtain around and the toilet and wash basin was hidden behind a wardrobe door!!!!
We had our breakfast in the Black Knight Restaurant the next morning and had the full english breakfast which was 5*- excellently cooked and red hot.
Overall Lumley Castle was a superb venue to host our ceremony/wedding and i can not recommend it/staff highly enough.
Well done Lumley Castle keep up the hard work !

Room Tip: Castle Feature Bedrooms are excellent with each room different

We booked a livingsocial stay for 2 nights in October for £120 with breakfast and 20% off the food menu. We had our key for the courtyard room. Very nice and clean keeping with the castle theme. We also had entry to crook gardens which was nice and split the day up. We then had a meal in the knights restaraunt, the meal was excellent very tasty, drinks a little expensive, breakfast was nice also, and the castle was great. Would like to stay in a castle room next time.

We would like to sincerely thank Samantha and her staff for making our 45th wedding anniversary really special. We had 9 family and friends staying in the wonderful courtyard mews bedrooms some with a huge four poster bed. We had dinner in the sceptre room and the food and service were second to none. We even had breakfast all together again in the sceptre room. The ambiance was great and everyone had a great time. Once again thank you Samantha .

Nice castle grounds. Had a courtyard bedroom - a very large space, but given the space available, could have made the bathroom larger. The shower stall is very small and hard to give a 4 year old a shower. Service was great, however food is just average (had breakfast, afternoon tea and reception dinner at the castle). Scrambled eggs were a little watery and bland. Stick with the smoked salmon option for breakfast. Go hungry for afternoon tea as the portions are quite large.

We have been here twice now. We start out spending our day at the Beamish Living museum 10 minutes away from the castle. Then arrive at the castle in the late afternoon in time to take in the really nice room ( we make sure we have a feature room in the castle itself) Then we love the chance to get very dressed up and have our dinner there at the castle. Best value is to get a feature room with the dinner and breakfast included. The meals are very very nice. I had the best duck I have ever had I think and my husband had a beautiful steak. Afterwards the library bar finishes the night off nicely. If you are looking for a special night away this is the place to go.Our second trip we took my son and his girlfriend there and they also loved it. Its just a special place to get away to. The staff are always friendly, the rooms are very clean and uniquely decorated. We are already thinking about going back again in the spring!

Room Tip: Be sure you request a feature room in the castle as high up as possible and we ask for a nice view a...

I rate this hotel as 4 with some generosity.

We bought an overnight stay in Lumley Castle from Living Social. It’s a historic castle converted to a hotel which is a great idea. We really enjoyed the surroundings in the evening with experiencing a feeling of medieval period. But there were some points that I want to bring up with future guests and the management of the hotel. First of all, they advertise this hotel as a 14 century castle. But actually not all the rooms constructed in 14 century. Apparently the castle has developed in three stages. 14 century, 18 century and then 2006! We were offered a room which was constructed just few years ago and it was out of the main structure. We booked with them to stay in a historic castle and not in a recently constructed room. Hotel reservation has to clarify it with guests in advance.

Second, they send us two E-mails to remind us that their restaurant will be busy and we have to book a table before our arrival. We did so, but on a Sunday night at 20:00 half of the tables were empty and food was expensive and average.

If you book with this hotel, reserve an actual historic room and I also recommend you to have your meal in the town and not in the hotel’s restaurant. In that case, it is a pleasure stay in this castle.

A very good restaurant with excellent food. It was well worth the trip. The food was reasonably priced and the overall service was well above average. There was three courses Soup for starters then roast beef and roast potatoes and vegetables. The final course was apple pie and custard. Very good evening.
