“perfect Wedding venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2012

Myself and my husband were married here in November 2011. We had a civil ceremony in the Fountain Room, reception also in the this room. We only had 35 day time guests and the room was a perfect size. I stayed there the night before and was given a complementary room for all the table decorations, flowers etc. I was met by one of the wedding planners who made sure she understood exactly how I wanted things to look. She then told me that another member of staff would visit the room on the morning of the Wedding to go though the schedule with me. Next morning a member of staff came to the room and introduced himself, he was then on hand all day and was our master of ceremonies. This man literally took charge on my behalf and even my hairdresser commented that I was the most relaxed bride she had ever seen! The wedding was perfect. We then moved into the Ballroom for the evening reception and the gentleman that had been with us all day handed us over to the evening staff who were equally attentive. Nothing was too much for the staff and even the cleaning staff took the time to congratulate us. All in all Ramside made this a day that I would repeat again in heart beat and would recommend to anyone for a wedding.

Room Tip: I stayed here the night before the wedding and I would recommend this idea to any bride, not only di...

Great value for money! I had a superior room which had 2 double beds in! The beds are comfortable and I had a good nights sleep! The bathroom is nice and modern and the shower made me want to stand in it all day!
The tv didn't have many channels only usual 1-5 and sky sports but I coped! There were also a few loose plug sockets in the room which concerned me! The hairdryer didn't do much either it just blew cold air!
The staff were very helpful and friendly !
There are also 2 restaurants in the hotel one is a steakhouse which was quite pricey! There is also a buffet/carvery! I didn't particularly enjoy this I found te food bland and the meat dry! The breakfast was nice !
Overall I would stay here again but would eat elsewhere next time

Stayed overnight for one night as a family wedding was being held at the hotel.
On check in we queried the bill as we knew it was roughly £110 plus two breakfasts as we had pre booked a family room and the bill asked for on check in was only £110. So to keep ourselves right we asked the receptionist to add on the bill for the two addition breakfasts that were not included in the family room deal. We got this deal due to a friend who actually booked a night for the wedding and got it a lot cheaper than the special wedding deal, so when the bride phoned up and complained about it the hotel “priced matched “the rooms to the cheaper rate.
The female reception manager appeared and asked the ages of the other two guests sharing the family room (a twenty year old and a fifteen year old) she said that’s four adults and that the bill was £200.we knew that all fifteen of the rooms that the wedding party had pre booked had a deal on them saying that all family rooms were £110 and you needed to pay for any extra breakfasts as the first two breakfasts were included in the price of the room.
After a debate with the manager she knocked it down to £141.40p, this was still overcharging us but we paid the bill and checked in.
Shortly afterwards we returned to the reception with the grooms mother who knew the deal that was taken to speak to the female manager who had “JUST LEFT” the receptionist found another manager a male this time and after we informed him of the problem he said “if you go to your room we will have it sorted in about a hour”. No way were we moving till it got sorted and we were eventually refunded us £14.60, my mother got a refund of £22.
We were in room 308, rooms where ok and clean but for a room for four adults there was only coffee cups for two guests and the same applied to the bathroom towels, the flush on the toilet system was a duel flush but only one of the flushing button worked.
We have stayed in numerous hotels and find the hotel on par with the Best Western group, of which we are members; you are paying for the nice location.on check in the ask you to settle your bill of which i have never before been asked to do, you always pay on check out!!
The wedding party its self was well organised and went off ok but the marquee is on the end of the hotel and if it rains as it did you get wet walking from the marquee to your room as sometimes they let you walk through the inside rooms to avoid getting wet and other times we were stopped as there were other functions occurring.
WEDDING TIP; if you take the wedding deal remember to get sombody to get a price closer to the time of the wedding and see if there is a price difference, then see your wedding planner to price match the rooms if they are any cheaper.

stayed at this hotel for a wedding on 6/7/12. The wedding facilities were fantastic & very organised, the only downside to the wedding facilities was the location of the marquee especially if it rains (& it was raining!!). You can't get to the marquee through the inside of the hotel you need to go outside, not ideal if you have to walk in the rain!!There are corridors you could use which would get you near enough there but some staff wont let you use them! The hotel is very clean with plenty of lounges for sitting & chilling out.The hotel family bedrooms were of a good size with 2 double beds & a nice size bathroom but I wouldn't say they were any better than some other hotels I have stayed in. The reception staff were very polite & friendly even when we had a problem with the price we were quoted. They did their best to smooth things over by getting a "bookings manager" to help sort it out........ bad idea because she was not helpfull at all, she wouldn't even listen properly to what we had to say she just kept quoting what she believed to be the correct prices which was about £40 more than we had been quoted as a block booking for the wedding party ..... so watch what you are paying when settling your bill as there were 15 rooms booked in the wedding party & quite a few of us were overcharged!!We eventually got this refunded when a " duty manager" came onto his shift but it did spoil the wedding party atmosphere for a while. The "bookings manager" could learn from the girls on reception about customer service!! Also if you book in advance for a wedding block booking like our bride did check nearer the date as the rooms were a cheaper rate on the internet than what we were going to pay for a so called discount for block booking, when the bride called & said this they did reduce her rate down to the internet rate but you have to keep an eye on them or they will over charge you!!

All in all nice but overpriced, (even if you don't get over charged!!), you are paying for location & the scenery of the grounds but you can get just the same quality of hotel without the rural location for the same price or cheaper.

We stayed at the Ramside Hotel for our granddaughters graduation. A warm, efficient welcome at reception, and a very nice clean bedroom, overlooking the well kept gardens and golf course. We were very happy with the room and bathroom. Plenty of lounge areas in the hotel, quite and well appointed, and a choice of two dinning areas both serving good, hot, fresh food.. The hotel has other rooms for functions, and when we were there, there were three weddings on the Saturday but they did not interfere with us at all. A good well run hotel in nice surroundings, one which we would stay at again. There is also a Park and Ride over the road into Durham, an advantage as parking in Durham is not good

Marian of Bedford

Room Tip: All the rooms seemed to be very good, ask for one overlooking the garden and golf course

The hotel is superb, quality of rooms and public areas is magnificent, the staff are amongst the best I have seen in any hotel (especially reception on the morning of July 3rd).
bars and restaunts were great food good. Would not hesitate to stay again (soon I hope).
