This hotel has great views, a very nice sized pool and a good spa and fitness center. The food served is also quite good and the hotel is a combination of american+ british charm. I would really appreciate free wifi, which is super expensive, though that seems to be the trent in the UK vs the US. Good location (close to shopping centers, malls, and historical places). The staff is decent, though not the best I have seen in a Marriott.

The hotel is right in the centre of Durham, we stayed for one night with our little dog. Nice large room. Checked out the pool and gym, did not get time to use them but they looked really nice. Very relaxed atmosphere in the hotel. The evening meal was fine but not the desserts. The staff could not have been more helpful. Lovely breakfast. We went for lunch just over the bridge at a bar/restaurant called Chambers, very good mushroom burger and they are nice to your dog. Went to Crook Hall but closed on Saturdays.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, clean rooms and good food, However, as the room rates are high I think it disgraceful that one has to pay as much for Internet use, £15 per 24 hours, even £75 for a week is an extortionate price, even the WiFi cost the same, And the 24 hours wasn't for 24 hours usage, it was for 24 hours whether you used it or not!! And I also think parking for hotel residents should have been free. Having said that, the stay was good, apart from a constant "cold spot" in our room, no draughts from the window, I checked, haunted maybe??

A great few days at this excellent hotel. It is right in the heart of Durham and great for touring around (we went to Beamish and the Northumberland coast - both recommended).. We ate out on all three evenings but the breakfasts at the hotel set you up for the day.
We were booked into a disabled room (as the hotel was booked out) and this was a very big bedroom plus bathroom. The bath needed a bit of a clean around the disabled handles and we did not expect to have to pay for parking overnight. However these two things did not detract from a marvellous stay.

Room Tip: We had a room on the ground floor and these were quiet and convenient.

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel in the last six months, but I have visited it many times in the distant past. On paper it has everything I need but in practice not everything goes as well as it should. The hotel is very spread out and getting to rooms can involve long corridors, bridges and up and down stairs. On both occasions the bathrooms have been in need of a little refurbishment. Service has been variable, in all areas of the hotel although the bar/lounge service on my last visit did stand out as good. Breakfast has been a little mediocre on both occasions. The health club was small which would have been OK were all the items of equipment working however the pool was nice.
Mediocre value but for all that I will probably stay again.
