Stayed for one night, check in was simple but staff didn't suggest restaurant or point you in the direction of your room, not recommended to use spa facilities or advise if included in hotel stay

Took a while to find room, it was clean though air con noisy and couldn't turn off, annoying all night

Bar food was nice and staff friendly, breakfast was also nice with helpful staff.

Location is good for exploring Durham, would stay here again and recommend

Really great hotel. Food was excellent, staff were very friendly. Hotel room was very comfortable with all the mod cons. The leisure centre was in a separate building to the hotel, again the staff were friendly and accommodating. The leisure centre was spotlessly clean.

My husband and I stayed here for one night to break our journey and to visit Durham Cathedral and were very happy with almost every aspect of our stay. We received a warm welcome from the check-in staff and Sean and Stuart are to be commended for their patience as we asked lots of questions and requested a few items. We were also pleased to find we'd arrived at 'happy hour' so were able to enjoy a glass of passable wine as we unpacked! The hotel is very conveniently located at the foot of the bridge/entrance to the Old Town. Within a few minutes walk (up hill but not too bad!) we were passing lots of cute shops, restaurants and the Cathedral was about 7-8 minutes from the hotel. Our room was in the older part of the hotel and was lovely. The only problem was that the air conditioning was not working properly. It was a warm evening and because we'd been out till late, we didn't discover the problem till quite late. The staff, who were all amazingly helpful and apologetic, brought us a fan and opened the windows for us. If it hadn't been so late, we would have moved rooms but couldn't be bothered since it was after midnight. The buffet breakfast the next morning was excellent - I love it when smoked salmon and scrambled eggs are on offer instead of just the usual British breakfast - but it was a great spread and set us up for the long drive ahead.

Were it not for the A/C problem, this would have been a 5 star review - and the staff alone deserve that rating! We will definitely return next time we're in the area.

The floor in the hotel squeaked like in Hell, and during the nights I could hear mouse maneuvering, but for some reason it gave a certain charm to the hotel. I liked the natural pillows - they added to my sleeping quality. The hotel's personal was very helpful and responsive. Breakfast was above just good. Location is excellent. What else you'd need during a business trip to Durham?

If you want a proper hotel experience, then this hotel is a safe choice. My family and I have stayed here numerous times over the last six years, and we are always impressed by the location, staff, the food, facilities and the rooms.
