A great place to stay and eat. Would recommend any one to stay here. Rooms are modern and very clean. A great choice of food from the the menu. Very helpful staff when arranging transport to the cricket ground for us. Would definitely stay again!!

My room was very clean and bed very comfortable. the food was really nice, portions excellent
and very reasonable. The people were very friendly I would certainly stay at this hotel again if in the area. Hospitality excellent.

Me and two friends cycled John o Groats to Lands End, on a really stressful day of problems we stumbled across the Royal Oak. The locals were very friendly, making us feel very welcome. Even though we arrived on a Monday when they didn't serve food, they were more than willing to make sure we had food by giving us a variety of takeaway menus. Even though we had to leave that Morning by 5am the landlord ensured we had plenty of cereals to hand before we left. Overall we would strongly recommend the Royal Oak. Thank you!

Sadly we only stayed for one night but we feel we must comment about this place. First our room, very clean and a comfortable double bed. The food is home cooked and very tasty and I would recommend the lamb chops, my god they are big. Sonia told us a story about why lamb chops were big and it turned out these sheep where specially bred to feed the locals during the war, lol let Sonia tell you the story. The bar - good range of drinks at a low price. The Locals - If you want to meet and talk to genuine people from the north this is the place to go as we were lucky to meet group of young people celebrating an 18th Birthday in the bar who made our stay even better. One of them the next day drove us to collect our new vehicle from Peterlee (approx 30 miles) to save us the cost of a Taxi fare as we had travelled up on the train, thank you. We liked this place so much we will return but next time we will stay for longer.

The Royal Oak is a country pub/hotel where the welcome is out of this world, everyone wants to know you and its just like being home. the food is home cooked and the portions very generous and tasty mmmmmmm. bedrooms and beds very comfortable will definitely be going back for more.

Stayed for 2 nights at the end of November. My room was one of two available in an annex and had just been completed, everything was brand new and spotless. Sonia and Ian made me feel welcomed from the off and are both lovely people, Sonia is bonkers (in a good way) and full of fun. The food was very good value and all homemade.
Overall, the place had a very relaxed feel, its not 5 star by any manner of means but I would definately stay again because of the welcome and the value it represents.
If your really lucky Sonia might show you her party piece lol.

Our stay at The Royal Oak was a very pleasant one.
The hosts Sonia and Ian were very welcoming.
We stayed in room One which was a family room.
The room was very large, modern and clean and had a nice view of
horses in a field.
Food at the Royal Oak was very good, large portions and good value
for money.
If we are in the area again we would come back to stay.
Highly recomended
