Decided to have our Christmas dinner out this year for a change and we had a wonderful time. The food and service was superb and really cannot fault anything about the day. Whilst eating out on Christmas day is expensive, if the quality is good it is money well spent. Many thanks to all the staff who obviously worked really hard to provide us with a wonderful day.

Looking for somewhere to dine at short notice in Durham is never easy. I happened to speak with a friend and mentioned we wished to dine out on Sunday evening as it was to be a birthday celebration for my son and I. She recommended Bailey's Restaurant/Honest Lawyer Hotel without hesitation as she had been there herself the previous week.
To be on the safe side I booked a table in advance to avoid disappointment. On arrival we were shown to our table and ordered drinks as well as our meal. We were not harried or rushed and the food from an excellent menu was not only of ample quantity but of excellent quality, so much so that we could not squeeze in even a small dessert. The food is really good value for money the ambiance cosy and comfortable and the staff attentive without being in your face. Yes we will return as it's always a pleasure to find somewhere you can truly say at the end of the evening I enjoyed that meal.

Went with family and friends for afternoon tea on 29 November. Lovely ambience in warm restauarant. Service was excellent and food was beautifully presented. There was plenty to eat and the fancies were absolutely delicious. I would certainly book again as it was such a relaxing experience.

This was our second attempt here. We had problems with the booking on the first attempt, but the manager resolved this – so fair play – and good example of excellent customer service – other places should learn from Chris. On both occasions the food was really really good. I have to say that the layout of the place is somewhat weird and haphazard and they need to get someone in who knows how to organise the space better. That said the layout does not seem to deter people as on both occasions the place was extremely busy. Well worth a visit.
