This tour is a short one and worth seeing the castle, which is not used by Durham College. If you're pressed for time, I would put a priority on the Cathedral but the college tour adds another interesting layer of history.

We bought tickets from the Visitor Info Centre as you need to book a tour if you want to get into the Castle. Our guide was knowledgeable and approachable and the tour lasted about 45 minutes. It was raining heavily so that did slightly affect our enjoyment but the Castle is a must see if you are in Durham especially for the Great Hall and the Chapel.

Amazing College, though tired and slightly run-down rooms. However it makes up for it with the stunning Great Hall and beautiful Senate Suite, SCR rooms, terraces etc. A MUST SEE in Durham

Working castles such as the one in Durham sre well worth a visit. You have to book into a tour which was £15 for a family of 2 adults and up to 3 children.
Our guide Raphaella was very knowledgable. My favourite part was the old chapel.
I think it’s fantastic that students get to live in such an amazing place and it keeps it from going to ruin.

The castle is used as student accommodation however you can book a tour for £5 which lasts approximately one hour and is well worth the money. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and we were taken round the main parts of the castle including the courtyard, chapel and the great hall. Disappointingly there was no access to the Keep as it is all student accommodation and is a Victorian add-on which we were told has nothing worth seeing however it would've been good to see the view of the city from the height of the castle itself. Otherwise well worth a visit and great value for money.
