I grew up in the area and so I have visited Durham Cathedral many times. I’m not religious but I like to visit religious sites wherever I visit. Durham is a real gem, it’s really about as beautiful and moving as it gets.
Highly recommended.

This amazing cathedral, built by the Normans, and containing the tombs of the Venerable Bede and St Cuthbert and the most intact medieval cloisters in England, this awe inspiring place is breathtaking in its size and magnificence. Huge towering columns in this mainly Romanesque building. Certainly deserves its World Heritage status.

Durham Cathedral is amazing and it is free entry, however donations are actively encouraged. There is plenty to look at and the stained glass windows are beautiful. Don't forget to look in to the Galilee chapel, easily missed if you go in the main front doors. The architecture in here is mezmerising. Photos can now be taken inside, which is great and as it should be. Hope other cathedrals, which don't allow it, follow suit.

Towering columns line the nerve of the cathedral and have survived the centuries. Amazing to see the first stone vaulted ceiling in England. How many of todaay’s buildings will still be standing - or deserve to be - in 1000 years time?

The architecture is amazing and the building is just beautiful. A new stained glass window has just been unveiled and in contrast is very modern but fits so well. The cathedral is steeped in history and is very interesting. It was used in the Harry Potter films so if you are a Harry Potter fan you must pay a visit if you are in the area.
