“Good place to vist”
Reviewed 31 May 2013

A small museum jampacked with artifacts with plenty of places to sit and browse.
Stunning permanent displays and also temporary ones too. Although most iitems are behind glass it is so well lit you feel like you can be close enough to touch the displays.
I love to take my grandchildren where there are lots of small tables with pencils and sketches to colour in.Keep them intested in their surroundings.Dressing up items too.
Coffe available so can you .spend quite a long time in the museum. A great day out and inexpensive.

“Nice place”
Reviewed 29 May 2013

This place has permanent and visiting exhibitions, it's off the beaten track therefore rarely busy, and it has interesting little trinkets in the shop, and good coffee.

“Egyptian collection”
Reviewed 18 May 2013

I can never understand why a collection of artefacts from Ancient Egypt is housed in this "Oriental" Museum alongside items from South-East Asia ...
Arriva bus service no.6, from the bus station, conveys visitors to the Botanic Gardens/Oriental Museum stop and both are clearly signposted from there. Entrance to the Oriental Museum is cheap; snack food and drinks may be purchased and consumed at one of the small tables inside; there are clean toilets and a small shop.
As usual, I visited only the two rooms devoted to Ancient Egypt - one with a fine collection, well displayed and exhaustively labelled, of top-quailty artefacts; the other aimed more at introducing schoolchildren to the everyday life and customs of the Ancient Egyptians with dressing-up clothes etc., etc.. There are a few stools in each room and low seating, around a table, for children in the "introductory" room. Highly recommended for all ages.
