Slap bang in the middle of Durham, surrounded by all the main sites of interest within 1/2 mile of the college and with great views from this beautiful building. It is just 100yds from College Green, the Cathedral and the Castle.

available as YHA accommodation during the university holidays and book-able through the YHA sites but open to anyone - not just YHA members.

The staff were so helpful and the breakfast - served in the staff/student dining room was more than plenty

I stayed here for one night with a group of friends.
The Location was great, right in the centre of durham.
It was good value for money at £35 but being opposite the cathedral was too noisy at night as you could here the bells ringing throughout the night even with the windows shut.
The room was spacious enough for a short stay but the shared facilities were a little grubby and the bed quite hard, you could feel the springs through it and the sheet on my bed had a whole in it.
The price included breakfast which was pretty good.
There's parking available but it's a good ten minute walk away although it was a very pleasant walk.

Not much to add to last year's review - all still very basic but at least had a larger washbasin, despite being a single room. Thought the food was better this year - the kitchen / serving staff are as cheerful and very accommodating as ever.
Only drawback was a room at the front - sleep? Hah. no chance! The cathedral across the road does full 'Westminster' chimes; the cathedral yard depot is immediately across the road (skip collection at 6am!), and what looks to be a quiet back road past the college is like an echo chamber - record was 3 dustcarts and the motorised road sweeping truck (both ways) - all before 6:30am. Reminiscent of a 747 landing outside the window. And the mattress had little padding - like 'sleeping' on bare springs.

Room Tip: DO NOT have a room at the front, unless you sleep with earplugs.

Stayed here for a week at Easter. The college becomes a B&B out of term time.
The rooms were comfortable and clean with shared facilities. The breakfasts were excellent with lots of choice and options for vegetarians and others requiring special diets.
The real bonus is that the college is within the world heritage site of the city and is right next to the cathedral. The riverside walks, cafes, shops and pubs are right on your doorstep.

OK, it wasn't the fault of the College that we were there in the coldest March for 50 years, but it didn't add to the ambiance of the place. There is no onsite parking, but spaces can be arranged in a college down the hill and across the river. The College consists of the main house with dining, bar, meeting rooms etc; plus a number of adjacent residential houses. To get into the College entails exiting your accomodation and turning into the teeth of the snow-swept bitingly cold east wind. Not great. A twin room had plenty of space, especially around the ill-fitting windows, so depite having rads on full, the room was never warm. The 'ensuite' was a narrow corridor across the back of the room; Loo OK, shower OK, but washbasin was too small to wash both hands at the same time. No shaver point, and skimpy supply of 'toiletries'. Anyone reading the website and therefore expecting - "3-star", "each room has its own character, tastefully decorated and furnished" will be sadly disappointed. Furnishing etc is Youth Hostel standard, but just without the bunk beds.
Turning to the main college, the dining hall is like something from Harry Potter, impressive at first sight but packed in. Food is OK but doesn't reflect the "our three chefs are keen to impress" on the website. Nice covered courtyard seating area next the bar, and the meeting rooms are reasonably well-appointed and comfortable. On the PLUS side (and it is a major plus), all the staff are excellent - Reception, Kitchen/dining. and room staff. All happy-looking and ready to please; a rare commodity these days.

Room Tip: OK for a day event, but stay somewhere else.

I stayed here for 4 nights while carrying out research in the area. The location of the college is perfect for tourists, situated in the old town opposite the cathedral the streets are cute and quiet. The only noise are the cathedral bells which go off at all hours of the night as well as the milkman driving past!

The rooms are basic, clean and completely vary in size. Some of the single rooms could almost fit two double beds in. Each room has a sink, and some have en-suites and a refrigerator. The shared showers I found to be cold. Unfortunately, there is no WiFi and the rooms do not have any televisions, but they do include a shared kitchen, bathroom, and coffee facilities. In my case, upon visiting I found that previous students living there had left a substantial amount of food in the fridge.

The staff here are welcoming and friendly and the large breakfast served in the morning was a great start to the day! Would recommend to anybody visiting the area if you're looking for affordable accommodation in a fantastic location!

Room Tip: The rooms in the 'Grads house' are on the larger size
