“Church wit a facelift”
Review of St Nicholas Church

St Nicholas Church
Reviewed 15 August 2013

This is an old church with a modern interior. It has a cafe run for the benefit of the church. Didn't sample the food, but there were plenty of people in there mid morning having a coffee etc. Good to see what can be done to modernise the inside of a church.

Actually had a morning cuppa and a cake here - enjoyed it very much - donations invited for refreshments; but found the locals friendly and full of advice about where we should go and what we should see while in the lovely historic city of Durham.
It's got a lovely shop with crafts and jewellry. I liked it and would recommend a 'pop-in'.

Interior has been modernised - so lacking character. Good shop and snacks available. Good location in Durham market place.

Dropped in to have a look at this lovely old church and discovered they run a coffee shop there. We enjoyed discussing the history of this church and the area of Durham with some of the very knowledgeable ladies who help out there.

Right in the heart of the Market Place this beautiful old church is not what it first seems. Enter the main door and the interior is unexpectedly modern, a church that has regular services but with a different appearance to the norm. Explore a little further and there is a coffee lounge and Fairtrade Shop both of which are well worth a visit. The staff are very welcoming, helpful and knowlegable, have a little quiet meditation or just a browse but put this on your - must do list.
