If its a quiet real walk in the wild you ate after then this coast line is the place. Bracing, Yes even in the Summer there can be breezy conditions. However, a lot of money has been spent over the last few years cleaning up the beaches from former coal fields and the various wildlife is worth looking out for. Most people jump from Yorkshire to Northumberland beaches passinf Durham by, I say their loss. There is some real scenery to be had here. There are walks from Blackhall rocks, right up to Seaham some include refreshment opportunities others take a picnic. There is also Castle Eden Dene as a bonus.

Seaham Hall beach is the gateway to the Durham heritage coast. This is a lovely area with beautiful and atmospheric views. Well worth the trip.

This was a great find with many walks available especially on the beach to the north of the town and around the fairly new marina. Good shopping slightly inland at Dalton Park retail outlet.

This is beautiful scenery, the Durham coast. Although it may be nippy with the wind from the north Sea, the views are expansive and now that the coal is all gone, the beaches are clean and long. Great walks along the cliffs near Horden.

The east Durham coast is the best there is.I moved from the south and find it most untouched and a joy to walk and take in the great sights.
