Just returned from a meal at Sambuca in Durham with the small person, a fairly regular visitor to North Shields, I wanted to see what the Durham restaurant was like. Had a table booked for 7.30 was seated at 8 it was incredibly busy, not really a problem, was happy people watching. When we were seated my little girl was quite hungry, bread arrived instantly, we were asked whether we would like her meal when we had our starters, normal practice however in a restaurant so busy a pleasant surprise. Despite being very busy the majority of waiters stopped by and chatted to her, it was someones birthday while we were there, they pulled up and made to stand on a chair whilst the restaurant sings happy birthday to them, a regular occurrence at Sambucas.
A very pleasant meal , wonderful service and incredibly good value.
If you want Michelin star go somewhere else, if you want fun, value and good food the Sambuca chain is where to head. Will definately return.

After loads of good reviews we have visited Sambuca at Durham tonight. Food was excellent and great value for money, staff were very friendly and attentive with drinks, taking orders and clearing tables. Would definitely return again soon.

we visited last sunday after recommendations regarding food and price. Upon arrival we waited at least 8 minutes to be seated but it was quite busy, there were staff everywhere!! we had the 3 course special around £6.95 on a sunday, portions arent huge mind but potato skins were lovely, main course ok, meat pud and veg, coffee for dessert wasnt good at all, no cream, no brown sugar etc. Service was a bit shoddy but for a quick and cheap lunch out it was ok! they deduct £1 for the kids meals so £5.95 for them. I will prob return but go during the week for a £3.95 3 course meal.

This is my 2nd review on Sambuca. We go quite often on a weekend for the fabulous value lunch menu and take our kids. They don't have the lunch offer as they don't like the starters, so we generally just get them a pizza each. However, the past 3 times we have been the bill has been wrong and we have to get it recalculated - so make sure you check.
Also, we don't find the service to be all that great - we always have to wait ages to place our order and it can be tricky catching someone's eye to order drinks or get the bill.
However, it still remains an excellent value eatery and the food is lovely for the money. Would still recommend!

Went to Sambucas after it had been recommended and what a treat, We couldnt believe we had a3 course meal for just £3 95 Only 2 choices for each course but the main was different types of pasta or pizza and both were delicious. All the food was great no complaints at all. The service was prompt and the waiters the tops..This place is really worth giving a go
