Excellent. Stayed two nights. Durham and Beamish open air Museum was our treat to our daughter who was visiting us as she lives and works in London. Had a lovely meal at the Italian Resturant .We are pensioners from Yorkshire, the best thing for us is, as well as being very clean and comfortable,Travelodge allowed us to book one room for the three of us. Could Not afford it otherwise. Thanks

Great location for not only going to a wedding but also for visiting my family, Italian restaurant next door and loads of places to eat and drink within walking distance.
Very understanding staff when I lost my room key.

We were surprised on arrival to be told that our room was in a separate building. The hotel is a converted railway station but apart from the outside they have destroyed any character and made it a soulless hotel.

Upon arrival in the double room booked for two people there were only pillows and towels for one. Phoned reception who said it was no problem but we would have to collect involving two walks across the car park in the dark and rain.

Staff gave the attitude they'd rather not be there than wanting to help.

It is within easy walking distance of Durham's wonderful city centre and has ample parking though.

What can you expect from a family room for £29 including the £3 wifi. Yes, the room could have been bigger and so could the beds, but then I would expect to pay more. It was well situated, clean and functional. The staff were not really obviously interested in us, but were efficient and friendly all the same. Maybe if we had been more chatty, so would they. Bit of noise from above, but really, for that price, with free tea..........

I booked this stay back in April so was very lucky to pay only £80 for 3 nights stay - definitely the cheapest place I could find in Durham even that far in advance. It is slightly out of the centre, so if you arrive with luggage it might be an idea to get the 20A bus from the bus station, or take a taxi from the train station (it only came to £4.50 for one journey for us). However, if you are exploring the city over your stay without luggage, it is possible to walk into the centre of the city via a straight road in under 15 minutes at a leisurely pace.

The room itself was clean, if a little sparse. Our room was in the annex building that looks like a reasonably new build a little further up the road from the original hotel building. The room was slightly too big for the furniture they were obviously willing to put in there, so the chair in each corner of the room with a lot of space in between looked a little silly.

The shower worked well and there was good hot water. There is a dispenser of the mixed body/hair wash, but I'd recommend bringing your own, or purchasing some cheaply in town. Check in and check out were swift, and the person at reception took note of my only complaint about the room (squeaky floorboards) and promised to have it looked at. Check in is from 3pm and check out is at 12pm, which means you can still have your lie in on the last day. Avoid Sambuca restaurant next to the hotel if you are picky about service - they're not great.

Also, there is 30 minutes free wifi every day for 2 devices, after which it costs about £3 for 24 hours wifi access.

Stayed for two nights over the bank holiday weekend just gone, and previous Travelodge experiences had been really positive. Arrived this time again to a very clean room, with the hotel being ideally located for our purposes. Sadly, these were the only positives. Aside from the toilet seat being wobbly and moving about every time we used it, the TV only had about 8 working channels (instead of the 17 promised on the website), and this included BBC London as the only dedicated news channel - when the hotel is in Durham! Hospitality tray was incomplete as well - were lucky to have brought some latte etc. in sachets ourselves. Most importantly, we expected a king-size bed as per website stipulation but were simply put into what must have been a family room until fairly recently (marks in carpet from former sofa bed evident, with lots of redundant floor space). Hence we spent two very uncomfortable nights in a double bed, repeatedly waking up during the night as a result, suffering from lack of quality sleep during the day. As this is a split-site hotel, and we were in the upper building, Reception was a long way away (down the hill etc.), we never saw a member of staff and weren't going to waste precious time trying to find staff in order to raise all these issues during our stay. Paid for 24 hr. wi-fi access but only got a couple of hours' access as the system wouldn't let us log back on during the 24-hour period (until 5 mins. before expiry!). Breakfast option (in set box menu) is poor as well, and there are no catering outlets nearby offering breakfast. We regularly use budget hotels and didn't expect a 5-star experience, but we did expect to receive what we had paid for, according to website stipulation - a king-size bed and a fully functioning TV with 17 channels, as well as the 24-hour wi-fi access we paid extra for - which we didn't get, and staff did not see it fit to point this out to us when we checked in. They even initially got our check-out date wrong as well. With the exception of one Travelodge hotel elsewhere which we loved, after this experience we'll use alternative accommodation for future trips.
