“Authentic pub”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 via mobile

With exposed beams, two bars (don't be deceived by the smallness of the first one - though it is lovely), leaning walls and nice staff with unobtrusive tvs showing sport. A good pub to go to for a nice quiet evening, less students too.

“A haven with no music”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

We visit regularly and do not recognise the pub described by mathiman1958. The landlords have always prided themselves on well-kept beer and the new one is keeping up the tradition. As for food, the Dun Cow offers two dishes; chilli con carne with pitta bread and vegetarian pasta with garlic bread. These are home-cooked and are excellent value at £3.50. Cheese toasties are also available.

“Change in Onwer, change in Service”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

As a customer of this pub for nearly 30 years, it is heart breaking to see that the new owners have opted for the sad strategy of trying to maximise profit at the cost of a well established business model. What has always been a very enjoyable place to visit because of the quality of food and service has now joined the ranks of so many other establishments that feel it is acceptable to offer poor quality whilst expecting to hold onto thier customer base. A recent visit showed that they have decided to replace what was a well established menu with sub standard ingredients such as 'razor thin' bread and Iceland' french fries, in place of 'real' chips and generous bread. It is SO SAD to see that the new owners have opted for this strategy. I will miss the place but feel that my money can be better spent elsehwre. AVOID! unless you like 'motorway service' food. SO SAD!

“Great local pub”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

We were visiting my daughter at uni and were desperate to get away from student bars and, via CAMRA, found this great local. It was a Saturday night and very busy until 10am when it did quieten down - low ceilings and a compact room all made for a great atmosphere. Friendly and efficient staff. Actually found the beer a little disappointing - only 3 real ales : Black Sheep,Castle Eden and Green Dragon (or something like that!) none of which were especially interesting or inspiring. They did have an impressive selection of malt whiskers though!
