We stumbled on this place on a recant trip to Durham and it is a gem. We got sat on a sofa in the window and it is a great place to people watch, they do a loyalty card for one pound and its a must saves you a fortune on drink. The staff are very friendly and efficant, we had a stake sandwich and chips it was full of real pieces of stake cooked as requested, all in all a great place.

Varsity is very typical of a university town bar and restaurant and has a great atmosphere. Students, local residents and tourists all frequent the place which is right in the heart of the old city, very near to the Cathedral. Staff are friendly and service good. One can enjoy drinking here, watching sports and enjoying good food at reasonable prices. Overall, the quality is reliable.

Varsity typifies Durham. a relaxed Sport oreintated pub with a great mix of customers. I also visit Varsity whenever in Durham, as it's great for watching sport. Our last visit was at Xmas 2013, which we paired up with the Blessing of the Crib at Durham Cathedral. We had a meal, which came hot and quickly and sat in one of the lovely alcoves.

During the summer, the view from the balcony is fab onto the wear. Would certainly recommend to anyone wishing to find a great allrounder in the heart of the city

My family went here just before Christmas, so that we could spend some time together. We went at quite a busy time too, yet found no bother what so ever. The staff were extremely friendly, the customer service was the best I've seen and the food was excellent. The meals were delivered in a reasonable time and cooked to each of our liking, the waiters would ask us how we were doing and if everything was alright.
I enjoyed this so much that im currently planning a trip with a group of my friends. I would recommend it to anybody

Had few drinks while attending Lumiere Festival so was busy but bar service was quick & efficient, friends bought the drinks but prices seemed reasonable.

Modernly decorated they appear to have followed the Weatherspoons style of bar you could well mistake this for one of there chain

Only downside is that there is an underlying smell of damp if anywhere neat the stair cases down to the toilets and when you go down the stair the smell of damp is terrible.
