Had a meal at the Queen's Head on Friday night. We were four women (inc 3 over 60s) with a groupon voucher. £35 for a two course meal and a glass of wine for 4 people. We eat out regularly and we can be quite critical if we think the food or the service is not up to standard. Not a single complaint here. As soon as we walked in, the room was warm and the atmosphere was cosy and friendly. The young man who served us was friendly and polite even though we were asking for jugs of water, wanting to change drinks, etc (as older ladies are wont to do). I had fried mozzarella sticks, chutney and salad garnish for starters and duck breast with plum sauce and potatoes and vegetables for main. The others had different main courses and two of us had puddings instead of starters - the sticky toffee puddings with loads of pouring cream were gorgeous. The girl serving the drinks and helping serve the food was also very pleasant.
I have read the other reviews for the hotel and, while I am sure that every review is correct, they seem very far removed from our experience.
It's definitely a pub with no separate restaurant but, although the drinkers and eaters were all sat together, it all made for a very nice, comfortable atmosphere.
Would definitely go again, even without a voucher.
The photograph on the front of trip advisor page is years out-of-date. It doesn't look like this anymore.

Just stayed at this pub on 19th October, check in was poor, no one explained what the arrangements were for breakfast, times. We had to ask about a night key to get in after hours.
When we saw the room it was a disgrace, curtains that were not on a rod but a wire which did not actually close, wardrobes full of junk, had to remove it to put our clothes in.
Empty boxes under the beds, television which did not work and overall appearance pretty poor. I would not advise anyone to stay at this 1star hotel.
To top it all for breakfast it was supposed to be continental which we only found out in the morning, toast and cereal you would expect a full english, we even had to toast our own bread, well we would have if the toaster actually worked.
No one apart from the cleaner was there in the morning, I felt really sorry for her because she had to deal with disgruntled customers.
I actually complained and the manager has not even acknowledged the complaint.
This tells you what kind of hotel this is.
My advice to anyone is don't go there, and the photograph of the bedrooms on their website is a joke, must be another hotel as its certainly not one of theirs.
Never again

My husband and I came for a relaxing Saturday evening meal out and it didn't disappoint. My husband enjoys a pint of real ale and was delighted with the Black Sheep. I like a glass of red wine and there were a few choices. I chose a glass of Waters Edge Shiraz, very nice. We had a Nachos to start and enjoyed a large sharing plate of hot tortilla chips layered with salsa, jalapeño chillis & cheese topped with sour cream. For main course I had chicken breast stuffed with Brie & red onion marmalade finished with an Italian tomato & cream sauce with Parisienne potatoes, whilst my husband had Hunters Chicken. Both were absolutely delicious. We followed this with warm chocolate fudge cake & ice cream (which never disappoints). The restaurant was busy & there was a lovely atmosphere of friends coming to eat together. We had excellent service from the friendly staff and thoroughly recommend this for a relaxing meal out.

Me and my partner came to the queens head for a family meal although the dinner was nice. we saw the chef coming out of a outside storage room with frozen chicken, so was put off. the dessert was the worst Ive ever tasted and there was limited numbers of what was available. when i went to pay the bill for drinks which was 4.95 i paid with a 20 pound note and received only 5.05 change when told she claimed this was not the case and had rather a nasty attitude about it. i asked for her 2 check and was told there till was 25 pound down already and id receive a phone call the next morning as you can guess none came so i phoned to find out what happened and was told he could offer us free desserts which truth be told was laughable. working in a bar myself it is pretty obvious someone is taking money from the till i recommend cameras at tills!!! terrible meal, rude service (from only one barmaid i should mention), robbing and mold on walls in restaurant what more can i say? Stay Away!!!

Room Tip: dont visit
