“Good steak meal”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

My partner and I visited with a Living Social voucher which was for a 12oz Rump steak and a glass of wine. It's the first time I have been in this Bar/Restaurant/Hotel for over 20 years and it has had a complete revamp over the years. I thought the decor was very pleasant and it had a good ambience. The Staff were all very pleasant and helpful and it was very relaxing. Our Steaks came with home made onion rings, home made chips, peas, mushrooms and a tomatoe. We'd asked for Medium and they came exactly as ordered. The Meal was very filling and tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. There seemed a good selection of dishes on offer and on Thursdays and Sundays they do a two person steak dinner with two drinks for around £25 which seemed a good deal. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. There were a number of specials shown on blackboards and they all sounded fab. All in all a good visit

The Queens Head is in a very central location. They have an excellent menu and food is plentiful and served really hot, staff are attentive and cater to all of your needs. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend for anyone to have a meal here - prices very reasonable too.

Stayed at the Durham Travelodge recently and visited the Queens Head (5 minutes walk). My wife and I enjoyed an excellent meal from a varied menu and a wide choice of "Specials". The service was outstanding and we were made to feel really welcome. I have no hesitation in recommending this excellent, reasonably-priced restaurant (and the Black Sheep ale!!!)

Room Tip: Have the black-pudding mash with your meal - scrumptious!

We chose this pub because it was on our journey from Leeds to South Shields on Saturday 1st March and we wanted to break our journey for lunch somewhere not far off the A1, that accepted our Tastecard and also allowed dogs in the bar area. The welcome and the food and beer were great and although we don't visit the area very often, we will definitely drop in again with our border collie for some good pub grub when we are passing.

Came here to take our malnourished student son out for lunch. Good menu including veggie options. Had hamburgers & cod. Enjoyed warm relaxed environment and helpful staff. Recommend booking because it was busy but they managed to fit us in.
