“lovely clean establishment”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

After taking in the breathtaking sight and history of the Cathedral, there's nothing better than a light lunch at the undercroft.

“Visit to Durham last w/e of March 2014”
Reviewed 2 April 2014

Excellent food; clean; plenty of seating; good price; comfortable surroundings. The LEGO scale model is well worth seeing for yourself (and perhaps helping to build!). The Venerable Bede, Saint Cuthbert and Benjamin Britten all rest within Durham Cathedral and the Stewards know far more about theis fabulous place than I could ever begin to tell you! Enjoy!

“hearty lunch”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

My friend and I had lunch here after morning service. The Sheperdess pie was nicely cooked with a good range of fresh vegetables. The turkey dinner was also good with a good helping of Turkey breast. This was followed by home made Banoffee Pie. There was a very good selection of healthy salads and homemade cakes although no hot desserts on offer. It was a very pleasant meal and good value for money.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed 29 March 2014

Good food, reasonable prices, venue definitely somewhere different.
My wife and myself both had the chicken curry, with chocolate cake for pudding.
The curry was very tasty but the chocolate cake was a bit dry.
Edible but a bit dry.
It's more of a cafeteria than a restaurant but, for a quick bite, in an historical building, it's well worth a visit.
It was busy but not too busy, which made for a nice atmosphere and a bit of a "buzz" around the venue.

“No different”
Reviewed 11 March 2014

Just visited the " undercroft" on its first day after it had been closed for refurbishment. To be honest it seems no different. There may be a few more tables but it seems to have lost some of its atmosphere.
Although there were only about a dozen people in there were a few dirty, uncleared tables with food and napkins on the floor. To make matters worse the staff decided to re organise the tables around the customers whilst people were trying to eat. Very thoughtless.
The cakes and scones were average and in keeping with everywhere else in the UK overpriced.
All in all its OK but nothing out of the ordinary. Could be a great little place with just a little bit more thought after all its location is a bit special.
I think I will stick to "Treats" in the town which is far superior.
