Even if you're not a huge cricket fan, the atmosphere is usually really good and friendly. T20 matches tend to be most 'interesting' if you're not a fan.

I visited the ground for the second day of the county championship match v Notts. This a modern well equipped stadium and a lovely place to watch county cricket. There are lovely views of Lumley castle and when watching on television, from certain angles you would think you are right out in the country. However it is less than two miles and under five minutes by car from the A1.

Contrary to a previous view, I think that £3.20 to park right next to the ground is excellent value and much cheaper than at other county grounds. £15 admission fee is a bit pricy and I couldn't see that they offered a reduction for senior citizens. The toilets and eating facilities are both very good. The club shop is a small and there is hardly enough room to 'swing a bat' in it.

As it's name - Emirates Riverside, implies, the River Wear is only a hundred yards or so away and it makes for a lovely walk at lunchtime in either direction. On the day I went, there were members swimming in the river - dogs are granted membership and are seen on the ground - honestly! There is also parkland very close and within it are the well maintained Riverside Gardens - nice colourful begonias.

The staff and spectators are friendly and this is a nice ground to spend a relaxing day watching county cricket- good seating and facilities, easy access by car, cheap close car parking and nice lunch time walks.

The club were very accommodating in providing the facilities for the "Beamish ashes" Heritage match everything was superb. The only down side was the weather and my failure with the bat! Thank you very much a fun day was had by all

I liked a good stadium with good views of the cricket. It is also a good venue for wedding and other receptions.

I didn't like having to pay so much to park - the admission prices are quite high enough without having to pay a substantial car parking charge as well.

Parking is in a grassy area to the side of the ground and is reasonably priced and the only real option for leaving the car. We visited on a busy sunny day in July and found the stewards helpful right around the ground and the toilets clean if not a little difficult to track down. My only real issue was the food and drink outlets which were disorganised and so slow to get any service. It was a shame as the cricket club would maximise their revenue with some better trained bar staff. Still a fab setting and a thoroughly enjoyable day.
