The service and food at the hotel were excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient and when we had a problem getting wifi it was sorted immediately. The food was excellent, the best we have had anywhere this year and very reasonable. Courtyard room was fine, well furnished but we would consider upgrading on our next visit to make it even more pleasant.

Went on a living social deal with friends and had a great weekend. Paid extra for a room within the main hotel which was excellent... very cosy no complaints at all. Had 2 evening meals in Baileys restaurant which we really enjoyed, but had slight issues with regarding missing advertised ingredients. Had fantastic scallops the first night which consisted of 6 , in fact it was so nice we had it again on the second night, but this time we were down to 3 and the sauteed broad beans that went with it were missing. Our friends sauteed spinach was also missing from their main course, but when sent back this was added. the staff were extremely friendly and could not be faulted and the breakfast was excellent. All in all we had a great weekend and although we had a few gripes about the meals (we do really like our food)it seems a bit harsh to mention them after having such a good time. Really good value for money and would definitely go back.

Stayed one night on business. Liked the food, better than pub grub and reasonably priced. The breakfast was also good, well cooked (to order) & plenty of choice. Service was wonderful, nothing too much trouble and a smile from everyone.

Only negative are the rooms which although well furnished with comfortable beds, are in a courtyard and I did not feel as secure as I would have done in a hotel (as a lone female). Also the bathroom was a bit tired, tiles need cleaning and re-grouting.

All in all though I would recommend this hotel and would return again.

A very nice hotel with a resturant which can only be described as some of the best in Durham. The rooms are good but the only negative is one hard and one soft pillow. Two soft pillows would be better as I was in a twin room on my own swaped soft pillow from other bed. The room I stayed in room 9 courtyard the strong wind seemed to whistle through the side of the door and plumbing kept distrubing my sleep being loud. The room is fine though the tv seemed to have a bit of a shadow. I will add having to ask for plastic bath mat should not have been needed but apparently they can't be left in rooms but the speed it was delivered was superb along with general service from Chris and the team.

One tip, don't use wifi devices near it as it strangely effects reception. Also no switch to turn off main lights by bed. I have suggested adding one. Hotel is on bus route between Durham and Middlesborugh. I will say apart from a couple of niggles ir was superb.

We have had regular visits to the Honest Lawyer over the past 12 months and the frequency of visits should give you a good idea as the standards offered. With groups or as a couple, all of the staff in every department go out of their way to make the stay special. The accommodation is 3* as it is advertised and as the costs reflects, which is more than reasonable, however, the service, food and level of attention the staff give to ensure all customers needs are met is 5* plus. We highly recommend the Casino nights and a visit to Bailey's Bar is a must. This place and the staff is a hidden gem in the Best Western brochure and with in it's location to Durham City, highly recommended to anyone and everyone looking for accommodation.

Room Tip: If your not happy, then just ask. The staff will go to all lengths to make your stay as comfortable...

Just returned from a weekend stay with family group. My wife and I had an outside 'motel' style room, but don't be put off by initial impressions. The room was very comfortable and very clean. The hotel staff are exceptional - friendly and helpful. We ate in the restaurant on Saturday evening and we all thought the food was superb, adventurous and excellent value.
Breakfasts are served at the table and are very good.
We would absolutely recommend the Honest Lawyer, and will return for a meal on a future visit back to the North East.

Room Tip: For a small amount extra, you can upgrade to a larger room in the main hotel, which we would do next...

My husband and I stayed at the Honest Lawyer hotel on the 12th and 13th Nov after taking advantage of a Living Social offer. We had a lovely weekend and found the accommodation to be clean and comfortable. The rooms are well equipped and the big t.v was a nice touch.
We dined in the restaurant on Saturday and could not fault the quality of the food, or the portion size!!!! The staff were extremely pleasant and friendly and it genuiningly felt that nothing was too much trouble for them. We certainly recommend others stay at this hotel whether it is for business or just a weekend away.
