We went there for lunch on New Year's Eve. I had sirloin steak, peppercorn sauce and chips. It was set out beautifully and the steak was exactly how I asked it for and wasn't tough at all, no fat. The chips were amazing the salad I had with it was lovely and fresh.
Dessert was white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake with strawberry ice cream and was also super delicious!

Staff were helpful and premises, despite always being flooded are warm and to a high standard.

I would definitely return

Being a motel you can park just outside your room, so most rooms are well away from potentially noisy bar/restaurant.
Plumbing is a bit noisy as all water seems to be pumped.
Didn't eat there so cannot comment on the food.

We stayed for one night whilst visiting Durham for the Lumiere. Overall our stay was fine, however we had a few gripes, the carpet obvouisly had not been cleaned as it appeared to be covered in dog hairs, the bathroom however was spotless.
The main problem was the early morning noise which we couldn't identify, but I would say was a faulty water heater, this spoilt our stay as we had a late night but an early morning due to the noise. We did report this the night before but the lady on the desk didn't seem concerned and said the maintenence chap had gone home and she had only just started her job.Not very helpful.
The breakfast was good and good value for money. We didn't eat a main meal in the hotel.

Lovely greeting on arrival and a very helpful new receptionist. The menu seemed interesting which was a refreshing change but the execution of some of the dishes lacked a little something. We had an egg and mushroom florentine but notvery good at all. Other meals were a bit better but just not as exciting as they sounded.

Service good by and large, although one very grumpy waiter at breakfast and interesting bits of 'disapproving body language' when we asked for something everso slightly out of the ordinary . . . e.g. strong tea!

Our room was on the main road, and as we were there for a week a better situated room would have been nicer but we did enjoy watching the sheep and the view . . . And NOISY!

Clean enough, a chipped mug and poor quality toiletries.

Very disappointed that an item left behind was not found. I think this was rather unlikely and although leaving it was my own fault, it has caused major discomfort, cost and inconvenience.

Having said all that - we would go back . . . There does seem to be limited choice in the area in the right price range.

I booked a 70th birthday party for my mother,. The LH was very obliging, made a menu just for us in our price bracket. Accepted all of our requests and requirements. They could not have done more. Excellent service. Thanks to Billy and Julie

My husband and I stayed overnight recently. Very friendly staff, clean room and good food. Our room was in the main building and met all our requirements. Would recommend. We ate breakfast and Sunday lunch. Both meals consisted of large portions yet tasty food.

Room Tip: Room 56 - on front and overlooking main road (good view further in distance of sheep in a field!). D...

Very disappointing.
The ongoing road noise a side...
~ I suggest a thorough room 'deep clean'...
The General Manager should take a look around the rooms, I stayed in room 6 [didn't dare walk on the carpet bare footed]. *shudders*
However, the bed linen was spotlessly clean and fresh.

~ Noisy overhead water tank.
~ Boiling hot, hearing system 'clicked on' at 4:57am dead noisy...

NB. Stephanie the 'Restaurant Manager' is the saving grace, excellent people skills, a real genuine girl. 10/10

Food excellent... [Steak Burger]

Dear Paul E
Thank you for your review of the hotel. I am disappointed that everything during your stay didn't meet your expectations. I have certainly discussed your comments with our Head Housekeeer to make sure that our rooms are spotlessly clean, however as you will see from the majority of our Tripadvisor reviews we do score almost 5/5 for cleanliness so your experience certainly is a rare exception to our usual standards, and for that I can only apologise. I am however delighted that you found our food to be excellent, and Stephanie is delighted with your feedback.

I hope that we can welcome you back to the hotel in the near future

Kind Regards
