“A perfect place for a Christmas break!”
Reviewed 1 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

This was our third visit to Fern Cottage, all of them over the Christmas holidays. We received a warm welcome from Peter who was there to meet us. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you might need. Spotlessly clean and very warm and comfortable. Very handy for Durham city centre, we took the easy option and used the Park and Ride from Belmont so no problems with traffic or parking. There are lots of places nearby to visit including Beamish Museum which is really excellent. We also visited the coast at Tynemouth and Whitley Bay and walked along the quayside in Newcastle. The RSPB centre at Saltholme is also worth a visit. If you are into reading, Barter Books in Alnwick is a must, one of the largest secondhand bookshops in the UK. Based in the old railway station it's only about an hour away up the A1. we would definitely recommend this lovely cottage for a holiday in the Durham area.

“Lovely clean and well maintained cottage in beautiful Durham”
Reviewed 24 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

The whole process of renting this cottage in Durham went smoothly. From picking our cottage to receiving a quick and friendly reply from the lovely Carol. Carol was so welcoming and friendly. The location of the cottage was only a 20 minutes walk to the centre, although lots of buses would get you there quicker. The cottage was spotlessly clean, well maintained and well equipped. Just perfect for visiting our granddaughter studying at Dunham university.
Great walk along the river and great shopping at the market hall etc., Lots of lovely coffee shops and restaurants situated in Durhams picturesque streets with the amazing sights of the Castle and the Cathedral situated above Durham. The xmas lights were switched on whilst we were there so a great place to spend a cosy holiday or to do some xmas shopping. Would definitely recommend this cottage.

“Excellent cottage, excellent location.”
Reviewed 5 November 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Stayed here for a week and have no complaints at all. Very comfortable, spotlessly clean, great heating. Perfect location, free on street parking, 15 to 20 minute walk into centre of Durham (castle, cathedral etc), 10 minute walk to riverside. Warm welcome from Brian when we arrived. Small Sainsbury's five minutes walk from house which was very handy. Will go back!

“Ideal for a stay in York”
Reviewed 15 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Very nice cottage within easy walking distance from the town centre. Spotless and well fitted out. Great location to explore Durham and the surrounding area.
There is a pleasant walk through the woods down to the river and then to the city centre. Takes about 20 minutes. Bit of a climb coming back so 64 bus is an option.
Shops nearby with Sainsbury convenience store two minutes away (walking) and Tesco Extra 10 minutes away( walking).
Although on street parking outside the cottage no problem with getting a space.

“What a wonderful place to stay!!”
Reviewed 5 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Fern cottage was really lovely very well decorated and obviously well cared for. Had everything you could want. We didn't have a car, there is a bus that stupid just at the end of the road; but the walk through the woods into town was so nice we never used buses. I highly recommend staying here we absolutely loved it!

“Ideal for couples”
Reviewed 12 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

My wife and I stayed in Fern Cottage for 3 nights and loved it. The cottage is inviting, well furnished and in an excellent location and easy to find. The living room is cosy, spacious and well furnished with comfortable seating. The kitchen is well equipped, easy to use and has everything that is needed for cooking and having a Sainsbury´s up the road is very handy. The bedroom is spacious with a comfortable bed, sunny and beautifully furnished with plenty of storage space. The bathroom is modern and the shower excellent. The towels are fluffy and posh soaps and shampoos are provided. At the back is a small and neat yard with chairs and a table where one may sit on a hot day with a drink.

I would recommend Fern Cottage highly for location, comfort and atmosphere to anyone wishing to stay in Durham.
