“Excellent value and very attentive staff”
Reviewed 24 March 2013

Stayed one night with my wife in order to break up a long journey. The hotel itself is typical Premier Inn and kept spotlessly clean and tidy, whilst the staff were very attentive even by Premier Inn standards. As others have said there is plenty of parking and the pub next door served an excellent cooked to order breakfast. Our room was quiet and spacious, the bed comfortable and shower very powerful. Excellent value and we will definitely stay again if in the area.

Note, the directions emailed to us the day before proved useful as our satnav took us to the adjacent shopping centre and the Premier Inn was not directly visible.

This isn't old or historic, but it is a very nice hotel at a good price. The rooms were spacious, clean and the beds were comfortable.
Two big advantages - - - huge parking lot and a pub right next door.
We checked in and immediately we over to the pub and enjoyed dinner. The hotel coordinates breakfast with the pub, so in the morning we went back over there for breakfast.
I would highly recommend this hotel for travelers who just need a good value on a place to sleep. It is not in the middle of an historic city, but Durham is only a short drive.

Room Tip: We were in room 42 on the second level facing a field, which was very quiet.

No nonsense, very pleasnt. Frindly staff. Clean and comfortable. Superb breakfast. If you are heading to Durham I would thoroughly recommend this one. Easy parking and a short drive into city centre. Very good.

Booked three nights to facilitate the "husbands" desire to watch The Toon (which should have been on the Saturday) and visit good friends who live in the area. The match was changed to the Sunday, (as Newcastle United unlike Man Utd are still in europe!!!), so Saturday, despite the cold and snowy weather, we spent the afternoon in Durham, a delightful and interesting city. This Premier Inn is ideally located for visiting much of the North East, and one of our favourite places, Beamish, unfortunately the weather put the kybosh on that!! Friday night we ate at The Lambton Hounds, a lovely little pub just 5 minutes walk from the Premier Inn, Friday night is steak night, two steaks with all the trimmings and a bottle of wine for £19.95, very good too. Saturday night we ate at Dunelm Ridge, the Brewers Fayre adjacent to the Premier Inn. It was OK as "mass produced" food goes, and very handy for getting back to bed, especially in the cold!!
We had breakfast on the Sunday morning there too, a shame they've stopped the buffet style help yourself option, and you now have to order your cooked breakfast, not conducive I must say to "eat all you want", I'm sure there is a reason for reverting to this method. The breakfast was OK, and filled us up prior to being out for the day, but it is, at £8.25, expensive.
If anyone staying here wants another option for breakfast, we can HIGHLY recommend going round to Pulmans the VW dealers on the Arniston estate. Full English (2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 eggs, 2 toast, mushrooms or black pudding, beans or tomatoes (tinned or fresh) for £3.95, and a HUGE mug of tea for £1) they also do a variety of sandwiches for £2.75, wraps, pasta, jacket potatoes, burgers and daily specials. They are open from early morning, all I can say is excellent.
The room at Premier Inn, as usual was spotless, the staff most accomodating and we will definitely use this Inn again, just hope the weather is better next time.

We have stayed in a few premier hotels but this was by far one of the best, easy to find, good parking, near to Durham and many other local attractions, breakfast and dinner were enjoyed on all three days with a good choice on the menu and excellent food served. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to visit the north east, and argue with anybody who does'nt think that this hotel deserves top marks, Staff also helpful and friendly on each occasion we met them, will certainly visit again if in the area.
Only downside was a slight noise from room above with walking on floor.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms can sometimes hear walking on floor above, ask for a first floor room.

First time we have stayed at a Premier Inn, was pleasantly surprised how clean and modern the rooms were, and the plentiful supply of hot water was a bonus. Beds were comfortable. Staff were really helpful and friendly, and the access from the A167 good, also a good sized car park, which we still managed to get parked on on the saturday evening even though everywhere seemed very busy. Very helpful to have the directions from the adjacent retail park on the confirmation e-mail, as our sat nav like everyone elses sent us there. Sorry, but unable to recommend the food in the attched Brewers Fayre, we found it poor quality, and that (in an evening) most things came with chips, although the staff were friendly and helpful. We were a bit disappointed with the all you can eat breakfast, you have to order your hot food and it is brought to your table, so if you're hoping to choose that nice piece of crispy bacon, or well done sausage etc forget it. Cereals, bread for toasting etc were buffet style. Were impressed how quiet the hotel was at night. We had thought on the Saturday night it would be noisy as we were there for an event taking place nearby over the weekend with an evening function on the Saturday, and there were quite a few people staying at this hotel who were attending the function and we were anticipating noise from people returning in the early hours, which didn't happen. The receptionist said in the morning when we commented to her on this, that she had reminded people as they returned to remember people were asleep and to respect their right for a decent nights sleep. In summary I would say this is a decent Premier Inn with friendly and helpful staff, but the Brewers Fayre lets it down. Can't comment on the accessaability into Durham as we were there to attend a nearby event, and we chose this Premier Inn for it's proximity to that, we were not staying there to visit Durham itself.

It's a Premier Inn, which means that as a hotel it reaches a standard. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the beds likewise and it's properly maintained. Breakfast in the Brewer's Fayre next door is not as good as in many Premier Inns, but acceptable; dinner there in the evening is awful. The cheapest, nastiest pub food you can imagine. When staying there on my own, I had a good lunch elsewhere and went to Sainsburys round the corner to buy the makings of a ham sandwich to eat in my room in the evening. This time there were two of us and we didn't do that; I wish we had. Stay in the hotel by all means, but eat dinner elsewhere.
