About a 10-min drive from the centre of Durham, it's considerably cheaper than the closer alternatives.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, lending us a travel iron and board without charge.

The rooms were spacious and clean and we had a peaceful nights' rest. What more can you ask for £60?

I have stayed here twice in August 2013. On both occasions there was nothing to fault with either room or the staff. The place is clean, maintained as it should be, has all the facilities it should have and the staff are friendly, helpful and pleasant to deal with. Both times i had a room that overlooked the rear car park area and had no real issue with noise either from the main road or the retail park. There is also a garage business at that side of the building and there is of course no noise form that at night. I used the on site restaurant for an evening meal on a couple of occasions and again the staff were friendly and helpful and I had no issues with the service or had to wait longer than expected for my meal to arrive. While the food is not the worlds best its more than adequate and of course the same restaurant is used for breakfasts, again no complaints, although on my first visit the coffee machine was broken, however this could happen anywhere at any time.

It could be better sign posted from the road, however if you read the website and the confirmation email it does warn that the postcode covers the area and will take you to the retail park and not to the hotel. However the two are separated by less than a two minutes drive so its no real issue. It is around a 10 min drive from the center of Durham but does have the retail park close by for anything the hotel cant supply.

All in all I will stay here again if I need to be in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the rear corridor if you are concerned about noise

We stayed here to break up our homeward journey, a pleasant place to stay, albeit a bit awkward to find. The satnav took us to the retail park behind the Premier Inn. The room has everything we wanted and extra tea and coffee was provided. The 30 minutes free wifi enabled use to check emails etc. Staff at the reception desk were efficient and friendly.

We stayed one night last year and decided to make this hotel our base for a four day stay in the area this summer. Big mistake!

Our first problem was on check in. For some reason as an adult who has made a booking in my own name but added my husband's name to one of the rooms, I wasn't allowed to sign for both rooms. Apparently it is for security reasons and is company policy, Interesting as I have never had to do this at any other Premier Inn. So he had to stop what he was doing, unloading the car, sorting out our daughter, and come right in to sign a piece of paper. Also, this hotel still uses actual keys. This meant we couldn't have two per room - a big issue when you are two parents with two children (one with a disability) and need to have easy access to either room.

The carpark is badly designed and maintained which means the disabled parking spaces are pretty much unusable if there is heavy rain.

In both of our rooms, the temperature dial on the shower actually moves up as you are showering, the water gets hotter and hotter and despite being thermostatic there is no auto stop at 38 degrees. I did bring this to their attention on my last visit but clearly they don't feel the risk of scalding is worth fixing these for.

We had to ask the housekeeping staff to swap our rooms over as the room door gave off the most horrendous squeaking sound and woke our daughter every time it was opened.

The restaurant food is what you would expect for this type of place, but the service is painfully slow. It took anywhere between 40 minutes to an hour for our food to arrive on the three nights we ate there. And the staff seemed not to care very much about that.

Usual problem of noisy people on the floor above and coming and going but the biggest irritation was from the staff playing basket ball at the rear of the restaurant at all hours of the night. The constant thump thump of a basket ball woke me on several occasions.

If you are coming for a night, laying you head down and not too hungry, this place will be fine enough. Like most Premier Inns, it is clean and comfortable, but it lacks the niceties of others in the chain.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel away from the noisy basketball players

Again, typical trip to a Premier Inn. We found it a little hard to locate which is annoying when you are tired so that is my main grump. We had to ask a security guard. The receptionist was pleasant and very helpful. The room was fine - clean, beds made up, comfortable. A bit smaller than some of the rooms we've stayed in but comfortable. A fan which was needed due to the summer we've had to date. It was quiet and we managed to grab a couple of drinks from the brewer's fayre as a nightcap once the kids were in bed.
