We stayed here 2 nights and the room is nice however, each night we could hear the pub downstairs until about 11:00 pm each night. I did ask a couple people who had stayed here before if it was noisy, since it is above a pub. They all said it was not. So there may be some rooms that are quiet. I don't remember our room number, but if you stay here ask for a quiet room. Also, the beds are a bit small for 2 people. The breakfast was really nice and the location was great.

This is a superb pub. There is a well presented bar area and cosy back rooms crammed with Victorian memorabilia. The place is clean and has a good selection of real ales, the selection of wine is somewhat lacking though.
There are real coal fires which adds to the character of this pub and this is one of my favourite pubs in the UK.
The service was fine and polite.
It is in a good location a very short walk from the city centre and close to the university.
I know they do accommodation but can't comment on this.
As far as I know there is no food offered.
Definitely not a place for children.

Put simply, this is an absolutely fantastic pub. It features a bar area and a number of smaller rooms/snugs, each with decor that appears to entirely date back decades if not 100 years (apart from a random photo of Coronation Street’s Kevin Webster!). The bar in particular is spectacular - it could feature in a museum of pub culture. Numerous delicious craft beers and real ales are on offer, many from the North East. The pub has no slot machines and no music, ensuring a friendly crowd and the possibility for conversation to flow. Lastly, but importantly, the staff are extremely friendly and will give good advice on beer or simply nice chat. The kind of pub that you can happily while away the hours in. Absolutely worth the 10 minute walk from the tourist heart of Durham.

This is a pub as it should be. The real ales are kept to perfection by a bar/cellarman, i.e. someone who knows how to keep the lines clean and how to prepare and keep ale, as well as serve it. There are 6 rooms on a B&B basis and toasties compliment the range of snacks. On a Sunday this pub boasts a traditional bar "spread" of pickles, cheeses, scones, home made pies etc. This is a pub as it should be, no slot machines, no TV. Just good ale and good craic.

Room Tip: Any room is good

Stayed two nights. Breakfast was superb and the cook was very friendly and helpful. Four poster bed was nice but partners feet stuck out the end. Located in the student side of Durham but ideally placed for the river, castle and cathedral.
This is a real pub with a bar and sitting room. No music or machines which was wonderful. Staff friendly and helpful.
