We booked a one night stay at this hotel to break up a long journey from Scotland.

Our arrival was greeted by a very friendly receptionist and even the cleaners who were finishing the rooms took time to speak to my children.

The family room was a really good size and very clean. We were also provided with a password to allow WIFI access (a must for an iPhone addict like me!).

During our stay we have been given complimentary access to the leisure facility next door. This is where breakfast is served too.

We have decided not to have breakfast on this occasion as we have 2 children very keen to get on the road to Flamingoland but this is no reflection on the hotel at all.

We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a clean, friendly and very well priced stay.

I have nothing bad to say about Bannatynes Hotel in Durham. From the moment I arrived I was greeted by helpful staff, and a beautifully decorated environment. My room was stylishly decorated and extremely clean, with a kingsize bed and free, fast wi fi. All vistors have free access to the gym, pool and other health facilities. The gym is well equipped and obviously well maintained. The pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi areas are very clean indeed and of high standard. The cafe bar serves a range of food and drinks, all very reasonably priced and of good quality. Health club and catering staff, as with the hotel staff were very nice, service was quick, and any queries dealt with promptly. Location is a couple of miles out of Durham centre, but close to main road links. All in all, I cannot fault this hotel. The £35 I paid for all of this was money well spent. I have stayed in a lot of hotels and I always travel on a tight budget. This hotel is excellent value for money and by far the best budget hotel I have ever stayed at. If there is a downside to Bannatynes it is that there are not more of these hotels throughout the UK!

Nice hotel to stay at, rooms are clean and very modern, no bath but nice shower with variable shower head. Good hot water, all fixtures and fittings are of high quality. Only shame was the sky channels, CBBC BBC3 and FILM but the other two were sky help channels, this really let it down as a leisure stay was hoping to chill and watch some good sky channels but NO! The wifi wa up, could connect to the server fine with good level of connection but there router was an issue connecting to the net. So no internet available despite representations made to the receptionist. Good access to the health club which was very nice quality. Would stay again but take me own movie player.

Stayed at this hotel with my partner to split up a long jouney. It is in an excellent location when coming from the motorway.

The rooms are of similar quality to a travelodge or premier inn, however the use of all the sps facilities (gym, pool, jacuzzi, sauna) are including within the price of your stay making it much better value!

Staff all seemed very friendly. Very clean rooms.

No complaints!

When we first arrived at the hotel the receptionist was very polite and helpful and the room was nice and clean. The leisure facilities were very nice too, However this was the only good thing about our stay. On arrival the receptionist said " if they are too noisy, give me a shout and I will tell them to keep it down", Well this sounds great when you first walk into a hotel!! When we decided to go to sleep we understood what she meant. We had no sleep all night because of the noise from others in the corridor. They were shouting and cursing and kicking doors all night and we were glad to get up in the morning and leave!! Families with young children should not stay at this hotel! Will not be going back!

Good general purpose hotel, instructions for finding it from A1 very good. Reception very helpful, they told us about the bus at the end of the road into Durham, with buses running every 10 minutes this was excellent to use and relatively cheap. Room fairly clean although marks on work surface not wiped off when cleaned in morning. Bathroom facility was excellent. Slight noise from someone upstairs walking around during night but you would get that at most hotels of this standard. Leisure facilities were brilliant and the people working there couldn't have been more helpful. Shame the pool wasn't monitored, however, as children were still in the pool when they weren't supposed to be there - hopefully this was a one off!
