“Clean and friendly, a short bus ride from Durham centre”
Reviewed 5 July 2011

We stayed during Durham University congregations so the prices were up (£80) but the place was wonderfully new, clean and tidy. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Internet was free of charge. Buses pass close by every 10 min during the day and 30 min in the evenings. Nothing negative to say except that the hotel could state more clearly on its website that breakfast in the health club next door is _not_ included in the price.

I stayed here with some friends whilst attending a wedding at nearby Ramside Hall. I had a room to myself on the ground floor, so was lucky enough to have the huuuuge and very comfortable superkingsize bed all to myself. The room was clean and fairly big, with a bed, sofa, large desk and wardrobe. The toilet had a rather noisy and temperamental flush, but apart from that the bathroom was fine (it was clean, and that's the main thing). Location wise the hotel is just off the motorway, and is right next to a shopping park with a Pizza Hut, KFC etc. It's not the nicest of surroundings, but if, like us, you're just looking for a place to sleep then the hotel is really good value for money - the rooms are of a better quality than the average Travelodge/Premier Inn, and the rates are better than other hotels in the area.

Stayed at this hotel for one night whilst attending the Take That concert in Sunderland. Easy plentiful free car parking , very helpful night porter (we didnt arrive until 1am in the morning). Easy to find the room which was clean, modern and provided all we needed. Nice touches were the excellent walk in shower and the couch to relax upon. The bed and pillows were very very comfortable and the carpet was spotlessly clean.
Only two minor problems..not enough sugar for a hot drink and the toilet wasnt happy to be flushed first time. Other than this , I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget looking for a short stay.
NB use of the gym etc is free when staying at this hotel.

We booked a one night stay at this hotel to break up a long journey from Scotland.

Our arrival was greeted by a very friendly receptionist and even the cleaners who were finishing the rooms took time to speak to my children.

The family room was a really good size and very clean. We were also provided with a password to allow WIFI access (a must for an iPhone addict like me!).

During our stay we have been given complimentary access to the leisure facility next door. This is where breakfast is served too.

We have decided not to have breakfast on this occasion as we have 2 children very keen to get on the road to Flamingoland but this is no reflection on the hotel at all.

We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a clean, friendly and very well priced stay.

I have nothing bad to say about Bannatynes Hotel in Durham. From the moment I arrived I was greeted by helpful staff, and a beautifully decorated environment. My room was stylishly decorated and extremely clean, with a kingsize bed and free, fast wi fi. All vistors have free access to the gym, pool and other health facilities. The gym is well equipped and obviously well maintained. The pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi areas are very clean indeed and of high standard. The cafe bar serves a range of food and drinks, all very reasonably priced and of good quality. Health club and catering staff, as with the hotel staff were very nice, service was quick, and any queries dealt with promptly. Location is a couple of miles out of Durham centre, but close to main road links. All in all, I cannot fault this hotel. The £35 I paid for all of this was money well spent. I have stayed in a lot of hotels and I always travel on a tight budget. This hotel is excellent value for money and by far the best budget hotel I have ever stayed at. If there is a downside to Bannatynes it is that there are not more of these hotels throughout the UK!

Nice hotel to stay at, rooms are clean and very modern, no bath but nice shower with variable shower head. Good hot water, all fixtures and fittings are of high quality. Only shame was the sky channels, CBBC BBC3 and FILM but the other two were sky help channels, this really let it down as a leisure stay was hoping to chill and watch some good sky channels but NO! The wifi wa up, could connect to the server fine with good level of connection but there router was an issue connecting to the net. So no internet available despite representations made to the receptionist. Good access to the health club which was very nice quality. Would stay again but take me own movie player.
