A clean and great hotel stay for the money!
The service from the staff was excellent and the 5 minutes cab rides down to the center of Durham was made entertaining by the friendly cab driver Steve :-)
The rooms were clean and good sized. Waterboiler was present and a few strips of instant coffee.
Missed a hairdryer and maybe a bit better lighting in the bathroom.
All in all a great experience !!

Lovely Hotel, staff very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Did not eat here or use the leisure facilities so cannot comment on this. The money we paid for this hotel with the facilities on offer was fantastic value for money. The only downside was the room was a tad on the hot side but would defo stay here again if I was to ever visit Durham again. Highly recommended! Top marks for the staff!

The hotel was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was situated in an ideal spot for Durham town centre. The cleanliness and facilities were excellent and we would highly recommend this hotel. We will certainly stay at this hotel again. Our party of four guests could not believe this was only a two star hotel because it was as good as some four and five star hotels we have stayed in

Room Tip: One party stayed at front of hotel and we were at back and both rooms and views were excellent. Nei...

Similar to Premier Inns/Travelodges. I had a very enjoyable 3 night stay here. The hotel is clean and comfortable, as are the rooms. The leisure centre is just across the car park. Meals are served in the cafe at the leisure centre, and the chef is very good. It`s a joy to have real scrambled eggs as opposed to powdered! I did not try out the gym or the pool, but they looked good. There is a strict `no smoking` policy throughout, including the car park. Would certainly recommend the hotel as it is excellent value for money.

I really enjoyed this hotel. The room was a lot large than I expected and the bed massive! Service was wonderful with friendly receptionists available at all hours. Tastefully decorated, I enjoyed that the windows would only open a fraction meaning I could keep them open all night. The TV was of high quality too.

However, it was warm when I stayed there and would have appreciated the option of some lighter linen. The bathroom was also insufficiently cleaned; you could see the grot behind the tap in the bathroom mirror and when you shut one door of the shower curtain, black mould bits could come off the other. The ben linen also had a suspect stain on the pillowcase. I appreciate it's a hotel, but surely that would mean higher standards due to the high volume of different biological matter passing through one room?
Room cleaning was a bit dodgy; they came at erratic hours and at one point barged in on me getting changed despite my having asked them to wait a minute. If I didn't want room cleaning at 11am because I hadn't yet fully arisen, then it would appear that I didn't want it at all. If the room service use fixed hours then I would have been able to plan around them, rather than guessing when they would come. Cleaning staff was a bit rough; with one holding a cigarette in their hand (unlit) while asking if I wanted my room cleaned, as if to imply that their smoke break was long overdue. The one who barged in on me decided to come in with a friend and didn't even apologise despite my evident lack of trousers, holding the door wide open for anyone who walked past to share in the scene.

Dear FoodandSoil,

Thank you for posting your comment about your recent stay at Bannatyne Hotel Durham and that you found your stay to be of “Great value for money”.

I am surprised you were not satisfied with the housekeeping team, as the Hotel is normally receiving very positive feedback regarding its cleanliness. The Housekeepers work from 9am to 1pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 2pm at the weekends. These times are set so that we can clean the rooms and be ready for new guests arriving for check-in from 3pm check-in. These times are standard for most Hotels so I am do not understand why you feel it is erratic.

I have discussed your comments with the rest of the team and have made positive steps to ensure we improve for future visits. Please be assured that the Housekeeping team do not smoke either at work or during any break times.

I hope you return to stay with us again in the future.

Kind Regards

Matthew Emery

been up to Durham for a few days to see Bon Jovi at the Stadium of light. Pleasantly surprised at how lovely the hotel and spa were. All the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome in both the hotel and spa. The pool was a bonus for us and free to use if you were a guest at the hotel, would certainly stay again at this hotel , well done to everyone x

My husband and I stayed at this Durham hotel on the first floor in room 18 (for disabled persons) and we simply could not fault this hotel. It was an absolute, easy pleasure to stay in.
The room was large - a superkingsize bed perhaps? It was big! -and therefore the room was suitable for those with difficulties - the living aids in the shower / wet room were bulky as you want and black - giving a great contrast for the visually impaired as the suite was white, black and chrome. (Cords fitted as well). The flat screen tv on the wall had great channels, the sofa was comfy, there were tea/coffee making facilities which were refreshed the next day and a lovely long dressing table and mirror. Free wifi too- we always had a signal.
The cafe bar is situated in the Health Club which is just across the car park (free car and plentiful car parking) - our meal for two with 2 pints and 2 large glasses of wine came to less than £25.00 - in fact the main meals are £5.25 each with full nutritional data supplied on the menu! Bargain!
The facilities at the Health Club were great and the members - as well as the staff - especially the cafe bar manager & assistant - were great!
We took the members' advice and caught the X20 bus into Sunderland - the bus stop is just outside the hotel. The bus to Park Exchange bus station at Sunderland was £4.60 single adult. Equally we could have caught a taxi as that would have cost us £13.00 on a day rate. (We caught a taxi back which after 11pm cost £23.00 from Sunderland bus station).
The hotel has a tesco and petrol station round the corner, and a great golf course & a retail park which has a karting place in. It is in a fanastic situation for road links- the only downside with that is with the window open youdo get a little bit of road noise but not enough to bother you as it is in the distance. We traveled 5 hours to get to this hotel and it really was everything it said on the tin and more! Would definitely return. Bannatyne Group: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE start building towards the south and give the Holiday Inns and Premier Inns a run for their money!!!

Room Tip: If you need a large room ask for a disabled room & if they can help you they will.
