This was recommended by family. A top quality experience in all respects, reflected in the price, which is fair. This establishment is run by professionals who take pride in what they do. There are cheaper places elsewhere for those who are happy with lower quality. Everything is spotlessly clean and new, the location is ideal for the cathedral and city centre, for transport, and for parking.

Couldn't fault the service, we had to have breakfast after 9 due to an early appointment and when I mentioned this to the lady she said they'd cook it beforehand and serve it later, which was fine and it was excellent.

Our room was beautifully equipped and supremely comfortable, the only thing I didn't much like was the bright modern lighting (some would like it) but it can be turned off and there are small sidelights.

Room Tip: Some reviews indicate that the front rooms can be noisy. Ours had soundproof windows and we heard no noise, however it is a student town and students can be rowdy, if we'd slept with the windows open we might have been disturbed.

Thank you Mike for a cracking review.
I immediately showed it to to our cook and she was " over the moon "with your comments.
We are not cheap but we always try to give value for money.
We look around the guest house and try to make it the kind of place we would want to stay in ourselves and get a lot of satisfaction when we get an appreciative review.

Built in the time of King George II, this guest house has all the charm and prominence of the Georgian period.
Room 4 is very large and overlooks two streets, one cobbled and one leading down to a main artery that crosses the river.
A very comfortable bed in a large room and a modern bathroom which has benefitted from a designers overview creating a contempory outlook in a wonderfully old building.
Breakfast is excellent, the host very much involved in delivering a superb service, that we wished the time hadnt passed by so quickly.
Plenty of restaurants to chose from locally and all within a maximum of ten to twelve minute walk from our room, The Cafe Rouge being one we definitely rated and Esquires opposite has A Hot Chocolate 'with the works' thats second to none of the many eateries we tried.
Highly recommended, its a good base to leave from and return too.

Dear Simon
Thanks for your review. It was a pleasure to have you and your wife as guests. Even though you banged your head on a low ( for you ) light pendant a couple of times, you never lost your cool.
Also thanks for researching the age of the house.
We look forward to seeing you again.

A group of 5 of us had a lovely couple of days staying at Castle View. The name is very appropriate, the views of the castle and the cathedral are spectacular. If you don't know Durham, there are steep hills all over, and the guesthouse is on one. The welcome we received was warm and friendly, the rooms were beautiful, as were the bathrooms and the breakfast was excellent.
Although I slept very well, some of my friends found it a slightly noisy location, with pub-goers walking past late at night. From my front-facing room I heard nothing, so I guess it depends on how you sleep. The location was good, a short walk (down) to the shops, then (up) to the castle and cathedral. Would highly recommend

My wife and I have just returned from a long weekend in the stunning city that is Durham, Our stay was made even more enjoyable by the hospitality of our hosts at the Castle View Guest house located right in the centre of town! The room itself (2) was fantastic, spotlessly clean with a large comfortable bed! The breakfast was lovely with a good choice and friendly and welcoming service! The guest house itself is situated in a perfect spot to explore this great city, we will most certainly be returning to both Durham and the Castle view Guest house.

Stayed in room 2 which was a lovely spacious room, nicely decorated. Great bathroom with finishing touches such as face cloth, cotton wool pads, etc. Good hospitality tray in room with nice selection of teabags and coffee, also a teapot which is always a bonus.Immaculately clean. Good location, we travelled by train to Durham and it took about 10 minutes to walk there. Just a short walk into town centre. Breakfast was tasty and nicely presented. Would recommend the pub up the road (Old Elm Tree or something similar) at 12 Crossgate for a meal, tasty pub grub at reasonable prices with a nice atmosphere.
