This was our second stay at the Old Fernhouse and it was even better than the first. The house has been upgraded since we were last there, the bigger fridge was a bonus which was most definitely needed. The extra bedroom upstairs and the ensuite was a pleasant surprise. We had a really relaxing stay and we will be booking again for next year. The owner was very helpful and it was a nice touch to find milk in the fridge and tea and coffee on the side. Would definitely recommend a visit to the Spotted Dog pub for lunch, they do home cooked food which tastes great. So overall a very good weekend away, made better by the fact our well behaved dogs were welcome and a great place to stay.
The Old Fernhouse is lovely, spacious accommodation, with everything you could need for a comfortable holiday. Three generations of my family stayed for a nearby wedding and thoroughly enjoyed it. The young ones (and some not so young) loved playing in the safe garden area. We are already talking about going back.
Family comprising 4 children, 5 adults and two dogs came together to celebrate a significant birthday. We didn't leave the confines of the large garden for the entire weekend. Everything you could need for a great weekend of cricket, rounders, football, water fights and bbq. Note: immersion heater for hot water is in the loft bathroom. Have already recommended!
Originally chose this property as it was accessible for my dad, who needs disability friendly shower, and this property offered, one floor living, on suite wet room with support rails for toilet and lovely wide doors.
Could not have been more impressed when we arrived, lovely big space, so well equipped throughout, and more than enough room for our party of 8 ranging from 6 to 74 years old!
The upstairs rooms were fantastic and the bathroom HUGE! Downstairs the other rooms and bathroom were equally as clean and nicely furnished, decent TV's, free wifi, excellent outdoor space.
We only came for the weekend to go to Durham Miners Gala - just over half an hour drive away. Only downside is we didn't stay long enough to visit the rest of the area around Darlington, so will have to have a return stay to rectify this!
Helpful owner, trouble free rental, cant recommend highly enough :)

Fantastic stay . Lots of room and walled garden for the dog to gun about . Great overall stay highly recommend
Recently 9 of us spent the weekend here, was absolutely brilliant, it catered for our every need, very clean and spacious, would highly recommend thank you John
Roomy bungalow with all the pots and pans crockery and cutlery you need for up to 8 people. However there is only a small fridge with icebox so if you do not want to shop daily you are limited to what you can store.
The settees and chairs are rather worn and well used but serviceable. However the beds leave a lot to be desired. The two single beds in one of the larger bedrooms need new mattresses as they are lumpy and so uncomfortable that we could not get to sleep. Could do with some more mirrors in the bedrooms
The bathroom and ensuite are fine and there is a washing machine and tumble dryer for your use.
We spent New Year there with friends and had a great time but my sides still hurt from trying to sleep on an awful mattress
