This is an excellent choice if you value your privacy. You can come and go without any fuss and at the same time mingle with other guests in the bar and restaurant if you desire.
There is something attractively old fashioned about the public areas of this modern establishment. The staff are are excellent. The food is good. We could not find any fault with the facilities during a four night stay. If we are in Wigan again we will not even consider staying in another hotel. The hotel might consider re-positioning the entrance. The present location does nothing to enhance the impression one gets of the hotel on arrival.

My wife, my dog and i stayed overnight at the Wigan Oak Hotel on our way up to Scotland. I had booked it blind on the internet because of the location and price. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the all round cleanliness of the room and the helpful staff. The room was very spacious and comfortable and we were supplied with sufficient tea, coffee, milk etc as well as shampoo and shower gel. Breakfast was bought as an extra but the buffet was plentiful and again very helpful staff on hand if requried. An all round good experience.

A guy called Joe assisted us late on the Wednesday night. His name was Joe. He only brought us towels and an iron but he was very polite and professional. We had a conference the next day and a lady called Sandra served us breakfast and also assisted with the lunch order. She was very helpful and friendly. Very welcoming team.

A really nice hotel with polite and friendly staff and a great breakfast, also only a short walk from the town centre. Have a drink in the nearby Sam's bar on your way into town, it's rough and ready but very friendly

We always have a good time at this hotel ,hence our return visit.
This time it was nearly empty and had a very quiet dinner.
The Portuguese Restaurant manager was his usual helpful selfand the menu ,although limited was very good.
They could not fit us in all inclusive this time so we did half board, which was more expensive.
The next night my sister and her husband who lived locally also had dinner with us at the Mercure also a good night.
The following night we went out to dinner and returned at 11.30 and everything apart from Reception was closed.

I think this was due to England getting savaged in the world cup.
A good stay though.

Room Tip: Try to get one nearer to reception
