Stayed one night in a family room whilst in Wigan for a family get together. Spacious and comfortable room and general areas. Friendly staff, happy to help (even by posting on a forgotten item) and a nice breakfast. Nice to see too that money is being invested to maintain and upgrade the hotel and it's surrounds. Would stay again.

We have just returned from Ashfeild House after having afternoon tea. Lovely dining room, lovely setting, pleasant staff, fresh flowers on the table. The things which let it down and why we would not return or recommend are... Paper napkins are a no no, creased linen table cloth, no water jug with the very small tea pot, tea bags rather than loose tea with a strainer, no sugar tongs presumably you use fingers with the cubes? Huge wedges of cake more akin to a builders sandwich box rather than delicate pastries, cheese sandwiches very bland, not a garnish in sight , huge sausage roll cut into two on a separate plate not quite sure what that was about. The price to be fair reflects what it actually was, but if you are looking for something special then this is not for you.

We had our wedding here on 14th March 2014. What can I say Ashfield was like a home from home we stayed 2 nights and got treated excellently the staff are so helpful and friendly. The food we had was amazingly good and the bar prices are good. I would highly recommend Ashfield House for any event but especiallty weddings. The rooms are massive the room I stayed in on night one had a sofa and a chair in with still lots of room. The bridal suite we had is amazing. Excellent Hotel, Excellent Staff that made our day perfect and very easy. Can't wait to visit here again for a friends wedding. 5 star service and 10 star staff Thanks again Mr & Mr's Hindley

We stayed one night, meeting family and friends locally. Generally would have booked a Premier Inn spotted a great rate here - it was lovely.

Had a very classy country house feel, the room was massive and very comfortable. Our room had a lovely view over the garden and to the hills beyond.

There was only a small window to get a cooked breakfast 9:00-9:30, but it was well worth getting up for! Delicious and freshly cooked to order.

I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying here again. Made a lovely change from the chain hotels. Plus free wifi - a teenage must!

fab little hotel, booked through late rooms and when we got there late rooms had double booked the room with the supersize bath so we were given a different room, it was lovely, a huge room decorated very tastefully and spotless. And much to our surprise we were told we would not be charged for our room, because of late rooms error. The staff were brill and couldn't do enough for you to make sure you had everything you needed. would defo recommend this hotel, I have also eaten here on a separate occasion and the food is fantastic. thanks for makin our stay so nice keep up the good work your doing a fab job xx

Room Tip: im sure there all as lovely as the one I stayed in

My wife and I for only the second time in 46 years since we married decided to have Christmas dinner at a restaurant and chose Ashfield House as it is close to where we live. Not expecting too much we arrived to spend a few minutes in the bar which was very comfortable and plenty of room with good service. Ashfield doesn't have sittings on Christmas Day but spreads out the arrival of clients which means that it does not feel like a canteen meal with you being rushed. The location is very pleasant, the Christmas decorations very classy and the food excellent, plentiful, hot and delicious. Much better than we were expecting on Christmas day. The service was excellent and the staff very polite and efficient. We have already decided that we will make a booking at Ashfield when booking opens for Christmas 2014.

Visited here for Sunday lunch. Food was very good, not exceptional, but plenty of it and of a good quality. Staff were pleasant, polite and efficient.
Public areas are very nice, new floors, freshly decorated etc, although whoever chose the wallpaper for the Langtree room should be shot, it's awful and not at all in keeping with the age or style of the building.
However, as we will be attending a wedding there shortly we also had a look at the accommodation and it was very disappointing. The rooms are enormous, so pray tell why are there no king sized beds? It is very poor these days to think that double beds are in any way acceptable, especially in rooms which would easily accommodate superkings! The decor was fairly good, if a little drab and boring, but this is a matter of personal taste.
Apparently the management are soon to begin a scheme of restoration outside, and it's not a moment too soon. The car park is partially surrounded by a fence, or rather what's left of a fence, the paint is peeling off the window frames, the car park and path surface need repair and the driveway in is through a (private) housing estate! We were told that they have permission to open up the old driveway thereby avoiding the housing estate, but no date is yet set for that work to be completed. It is to be hoped it is done before the wedding we will be attending as if not, it will be the first time I've ever attended a wedding where the bride and groom are driven through a housing estate to their reception venue!
All in all, this could be an acceptable place to stay and possibly a good wedding venue, but not without a great deal of work and a huge monetary investment.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, i can confirm that our external works start next week and include new carpark, new raised terrace, restoration of original garden features and the reinstatement of the original driveway to name but a few improvements. The capital expenditure will be quite considerable and is in addition to the ground floor renovation which is now complete. I anticipate all of the elements of the scheme to be completed by the summer.

I am sorry you don't like our wallpaper! It is entirely personal taste and I have updated tripadviser with our latest photos so potential guests can decide for them selves if they like it or not (and plenty do!)
Thanks again and look forward to seeing you shortly as wedding guests.
Kind Regards, Katie
