We have just spent a 5 day coach holiday at this hotel which we enjoyed a great deal, clean friendly hotel, good food but the chef needs to take more care with the cooking of the meat dishes. On two evenings the meat was so tough that you could not cut it and certainly could't chew it,which was such a shame becauce everything else was first class.

We stayed here for fourteen nights this August for the 6th time in a row and i am pleased to say that once again we have had an excellent stay. Each year the hotel makes improvements and the new hotel frontage looks lovely. All the staff are very friendly and obliging and the food is excellent,I am a fussy eater but my plate was clean at the end of every meal. The chocolate cheese cake is to die for!!. The housekeeping could improve a little, there was a cob web on one of the lights in the corridor that i noticed the year before when we visited!!Our room was fine,it would have been nice to have a coat hook in the room and we found the tv too big for the room,it took up most of the dressing table and when you sat at the dressing table the mirror was too high on the wall but these are only small things,i cannot find anything major complain about (which is not like me!!) The only thing that could have improved my holiday was if the weather had been a little better but this is nothing the queens can change. Thanks to Louise and all the staff for making another holiday at Queens memorable for all the right reasons. We will be back next year.

2nd time we have stayed at the the Queens hotel. This time we took my parents who are in there late eighties and have not been away for a number of years. We all had a great week. All the staff are very friendly and very helpful. The food is great. A big thank you to Amy who was our waitress for most of the holiday.

One of the main reasons we stay at the Queens is for the nightly entertainment, which was varied and very entertaining.

As mentioned in the other posts everything within 5 mintues walk. Used the main hotel car park and had no trouble parking all week. The Seagulls are noisy (what do you expect you are by the sea)

We all had a wonderful holiday will go back next year

A few days before we were to stay at this hotel we phoned to enquire about parking. We were told that as there was a coach party there would probably be plenty of space. If not, we could park at the sister hotel (The Palace) which, we were assured was only 400 yards away and 'staff usually can get there in a couple of minutes'. This, I have to say, is untrue. The distance to The Palace is half a mile (over 800 yards) and it took us at least fifteen minutes. This was particularly annoying as we had told the person we phoned that we had mobility problems! We had to park in the sister hotel three days which, in my view, is not acceptable. The room we were allocated was a twin on the second floor at the front of the hotel, where there is a patio with several tables and chairs. There was tremendous noise from the patio until gone midnight and then it restarted before 7 a.m,
After three nights we requested a move to a room away from the front and were allocated one at the side which was obviously meant to be a single room but, although cramped, was acceptable. There was a very unpleasant smell in the corridor - none of the cleaners seemed to know the cause but they were obviously aware of it.
The breakfasts were very good (except that the chef didn't seem to be aware of the difference between smoked and fresh haddock). The waiting staff were very fast and efficient. We were only offered butter pats (no alternative such as Flora) and there was no sugar substitute. As we were leaving I asked at reception why they didn't provide these and she said they were available if requested - why not put a note on the menu to that effect?
In the room instructions it stated that freeview tv was available in all rooms but it wasn't in the second room we stayed in.
On checking in we were given no instructions as to where the restaurant, pool, games room were or any other instructions. We came down to breakfast the first morning with no idea where to go. Only one or two of the receptionists were amenable - a couple of them were quite curt.
Overall, if you don't want to use a car I suppose it is a fair hotel but I don't feel it is worthy of the three stars it has been awarded. Don't expect any frills such as small bottles of shampoo, tissues, shower caps etc. Quite basic really.

Room Tip: Request a room that doesn't overlook the front of the hotel.

We are sorry to hear you were not entirely happy with your stay with us, Parking at times can be busy, however we are lucky that we have alternative parking at our sister hotel The Palace only a short walk away, i am more than happy to personally drive any guests to the Palace Hotel that have mobility difficulties to collect their car or on their return from a day out. This can be arranged directly with myself. The new redisigned frontage of the hotel we are delighted with and all the guests are getting full use of, if there are any problems at anytime during the evenings there is always a Duty Manager or night porter on who will gladly deal with any issues.
We pride ourselves in buying as much locally sourced food products as possible with this in mind we use white smoked haddock which we serve at breakfast ,we use this as it is locally smoked and an alternative to the usual yellow smoked haddock
We provide lots of things for our guests such as shower caps, sweetners, flora portions on request, and in the last twelve months we have changed from the small individual shower gels etc to smart wall mounted shower gel/shampoo, hand wash and body lotions all made from natural ingredients to add a touch of class for our guests experience.

NOT on seafront but only 2/3 minutes away. Good position for harbour, beaches and shops. Some rooms are quite small but who spends their holidays in their rooms? Restaurant very good with service excellent. Entertainment every evening which was good every night. The improvement to the front terrace has enhanced the hotel.

It was lovelly to see you all again, we are all really pleased that you all had a great time. I have passed on your comments to all staff who all said how nice you all were. The front redesign has made such a difference to the hotel and to the comfort of all the guests and are really pleased that you thought so too. Good health to you all and hopefully see you all soon

Having done a search online for a nice hotel with evening meal included in the West country we came up with the Queens. The photo's of the hotel were impressive, large rooms, spacuious resturant and nice decor. We decided this would be just where we would like to stay. Also we wanted somewhere we would be able to park our car without any problems. The ad said large car park, we thought great.

On arriving there were no spaces at all in the car park, it was totally full, in fact for the whole time we stayed at theQueens (7 days) we never once was able to park our car in a space. We were told we could park our car in the sister hotel car park on the sea front. All very well but a 10 minuite walk is not good when you have bags and it's raining.

Our room was on the top floor of the hotel which we accessed by the very small lift. We were very disappointed when we saw the room. It was so small. The wordrobe was so close to the bed you could barely open the doors. To access the wordrobe you had to possition yourself correctly and move to the middle when you opened the doors. We think the room was a single room and they had squeezed in a double bed. The bathroom was also tiny with a walk in shower that had a shower curtain that had seen better days. There was a very strong smell of mould and there was mould on the tiles, no lovely big bathroom with bath that we had seen in the photo's online.

The room had a missing handle on the draws, there were holes in the carpet, it was dusty, there was no storage at all and the windows were very hard to open and shut, someone elderly would not have been able to manage them.

We asked to be moved to a bigger room but was told there were none availble. We were shown a family room but that seemed just as bad so we didn't bother.

The meals were quite nice although they did repeat them over the 7 days. The vegtables were poor. The resturant was not spaceous as the photo's shown. We were at at table for 2 but was so close to the tables either side we were almost touching the other people. Lucky for us we sat near some very nice people, but if you wanted to be private you had no chance.

The entertainment wasn't really to our taste. We felt it was suited more to the elderly who were the vast majority at the hotel.

Our first night sleep was very uncomfortable, the small room was so hot we had to have the windows open all night, the gulls kept us awake, also the man in the room next door snored so loud I should think the whole hotel heard him. No sound proofing at all.

Breakfast was good.

The staff were all friendly and helpful, it was a nice hotel but we felt it was so let down by our tatty room and lack of parking spaces. The very reason we choose the Queens was for the nice sized rooms and car park. When you are staying in a room for 7 days you need it to be big enough to take your luggage and to feel comfortable in. Ours wasn't.

Room Tip: Ask for a big room when you book

Due to the make up of the hotel, our rooms do differ slightly in size , they are however all 3 star rated. The cleanliness issues have been rectified and some re- training has been given to the room attendants. Larger rooms are available on request at the time of booking.
We provide a good range of entertainment from singers, comedienes to majicians which suits most tastes and ages.
We thank you for you comments and always deal with concerns or issues from our guests if made known at time of their stay.
