“Good Weekend”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

I have stayed at park holidays before but this was the first time at Paignton . We walked from the railway station a bit of hike with suitcases but a 5 seater taxi was not available for half an hour so walked.

On a arrival at the camp collected keys and went to caravan which was clean and tidy 111 but this is up the hill but lovely view from caravan.
The site is built on a hill and the facilities are at the base and hills either side. The outdoor pool is lovely and was warm and we were also lucky enough to have lovely weather. the shop and entertainment are next to pool and smugglers Inn opposite.
Entertainment usual family based and the children like Loopy a park holiday character.
Staff very friendly and helpful.

There are a few local shops within walking distance ( we had no car).

We walked into Paignton along the cliff path accessed from the park and this is very steep and lots of steps in places one needs to be fairly fit and the first part of this route is not suitable for pushchairs.
On the way to Paignton you pass Goodrington Sands Beach This is a lovely clean and freash, water sports available , speed boat trips £5 per person, there is also a Brewers Faye there for food. a very large outdoor water park did not use it but it was £48 for the day for family of 4. A park a café. I was impressed with this area..
The walk from Goodrington Sands to Paignton harbour was easier as proper paths that went gradually uphill and then down to the harbour, this part took about 20 to 30 minutes.

There is also a nice beach if you turn to the right out of the camp near the beach this path takes you to another nice beach which I believe was called broad sands much easier walk and refreshments available on the small promenade.
On both these walks you are near the railway line on which the steam train from Paignton To Brixham runs. also lovely views to see.

A lovely weekend a good base for the area I e Paignton zoo, Paignton Brixham Torquay.
What ever you do if you eat at the smugglers inn and take your food outside do not leave it unattended at all as the seagulls will eat if for you.
Also this is a very hilly site and people with walking difficulties would struggle.
Their is a park holidays at Dawlish Sands and this is an older site but completely flat and I have stayed there 3 times.

Park holidays have some really great offers you can book last minute subject to availability and have the added bonus if you go out for the day you can call in and use facilities in any of their other parks.
Good time.
sue

Room Tip: Most of camp on a hill but views lovely .

The caravan was a gold plus and its was lovelly inside.really spacious aswell.the view from the decking was amazing.could be anywhere in the world. We had our two small girls with us and needed some dvds for those times where we needed some quiet,we askex lady called sue and she was so lovelly she offered to pop home and get us some, really appreciated it. The facilities were all lovelly and the evening entertainment was brilliant especially for the kids. Shops all two minutes away which was handy. Overall a brilliant week away. Will be going again. We found this site through google and were sceptical as the price was so reasonable and it was our fort time to the area and a holiday home site.

We arrived late afternoon and were happy to see how tidy and well planned and clearly signed everything was.

John on reception greeted us and was very helpful friendly and informative.

We stopped in a silver plus 8 berth caravan with our two children (1yo and 3yo) the caravan was fantastic, a great size, very clean and cozy, had everything you would need while away from home (just take your own towels)

The guide book was great and came in handy with opening times and nearest ATM's, petrol station, food etc also the on site shop has everything you need and surprisingly is very well priced too!

We had a takeaway from the smugglers inn on site the first night it was very reasonable and freshly cooked. But eat out or got a local take away the other nights.

We had some lovely days out on the steam trains and ferry, beach, Torquay etc.

There is an Asda and sainsburys, with KFC and McDonalds within 5 mins drive, great when you need bits for the kids or their being fussy and want a happy meal.

All in all this is a great place to go and the local area is beautiful for a young family wanting to get away. With friendly staff and great amenities.

John is a credit to the site as was always happy and chatty and helpful with any questions or just when I popped I for a few bits, Thank you.

This is a great holiday park, with only a few minor snags that stopped it getting 5 stars. We stayed in caravan 190, which is a Gold Plus, 2 bedroom, 4 berth caravan. It was of a very good standard and we thought the price we paid was very good for the week. The site is quite large and parts of it are on quite steep hillsides. We originally asked for a sea view, which the receptionist said they would try their best to accommodate. The van didn't have a sea view, but in hindsight this was quite a good thing, as those with sea views were up in the steeper parts of the site, and with a toddler it would have ended up being a bit of pain to be higher up in the site. Instead our van was virtually next to the pool and had a good view of the passing steam trains – which our little boy loved!

Our van had patio doors and a decking area. The patio doors did not lock with a key, but with a lever from the inside. The two bedrooms were at either end of the van – so our son had to pass through the living room and kitchen to get to our room. Not an issue, but on just the second morning, he came and woke us as normal only for us to find he had not only worked out how to unlock the patio doors, but he had also opened them! I asked at Reception for a child lock and the maintenance man was immediately sent round to find a solution to prevent our toddler wandering off in the night! He found a way of locking the door so our son couldn't unlock it and he also found a way to lock the gate so even if he did find a way out he wouldn't be able to leave the decking outside.

The pool is lovely – a really good temperature, with a lovely kiddies section. The lifeguards were really friendly and chatty and remembered out son's name after just one visit to the pool. There is a cafe, called the Smugglers Inn, which serves meals and drinks – including beers, wines, etc. We received a number of vouchers to use, which we made the most of. The food was reasonably priced for the standard – I think most of it was pre-made/bought in, but that meant everything was prepared very quickly. The pizzas were particularly nice.

We didn't venture into the Yacht Club too much – only to use the slot machines they had in there. There was a full programme of entertainment each night, but it didn't really appeal to us, so we didn't visit.

There's a short walk onto the cliffs to gorgeous views across Torbay – particularly relaxing early in the morning. You can also walk along the coast path to Broadsands beach – only a 10 minute walk and a really nice beach.

The slight snags:

-the main light in one of our bathrooms didn't work. There was a card in the caravan to report such issues, which I completed and took to Reception on our first full day at the site. As of leaving 6 days later it had still not been fixed. We didn't pursue it, because the light nights and the fact we could switch on the shower light if needed meant it wasn't really essential – but still not the best service.

- The yacht club is really noisy at night. Our van was quite close to it, but quite a large proportion of vans are close as well, so a large proportion of vans on the site must be able to hear the entertainment going on each night. The noise did go on quite late and even with ear plugs in it kept us awake. This was especially the case on Friday night, when the noise of the music was louder than previous nights. It was so loud that even when it stopped I still couldn't get to sleep because it had really disturbed my sleep pattern. We needed to leave very early the following morning and I ended up having to drive 250 miles after only 2 hours sleep. I think they really need to sound proof the club better.

However, these were just two slight flaws and I would definitely return to the park again in the future.

Thank you, Sw121, for your lovely comments, Its great to read that you enjoyed your stay with us, the caravan was a good standard and you enjoyed the facilities that you used. I am pleased we were able to resolve your patio door issue quickly however I am a little worried that the lighting problem was not resolved during your stay, this will be investigated. I will bring the noise issue to the attention of the Complex Manager for his resolution and I will monitor the noise from the Yacht Club.
Thank you again for your review, we hope to see you soon.

Booked last minute, *2 days before arrival* booked the cheapest van available too.
Found the site very easily. initial impressions were clean, tidy and well thought out.
Collected keys from reception and was able to park relatively close to the van... ok no sea view but u get what you pay for!
Expecting cheap and cheerful, the accomodation was very clean and tidy... with everything we needed.
Folder of useful information inside, including opening and closing times on the site and local shops, even takeaway menu's were left for us. Despite the fact they have their own restaurant.
Pool was well looked after, staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Very steep descent down to the beach from the site but that's not their fault, there are steps but then its all a rock climb down - again, thats about 1 min walk out of the site though, so its nothing to do with the site itself.

Dont be fooled if u think its close to paignton itself, we walked there every night and its about 2 miles each way up and down some very steep hills. (the staff did suggest we got the bus -which stops at the top of the drive - as "walking is insane") haha

In all fairness though, couldnt ask for more, it was clean and tidy, exactly as i booked.

Room Tip: Quite simply i think, the more you pay, the better view from the caravan by the looks of things.. Bu...

Many thanks Pippy2222 for your wonderful comments, I am really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We take great pride in the service we provide to our guests, whether that be with the accommodation, the parks facilities or the parks teams. Even though you booked a last minute deal in one of our cheaper caravans you still found it to be clean and well equipped and was everything you needed. We are a couple of miles to the south of Paignton and three miles to the north of Brixham, what a great position to be in :)

Me my wife and mother in law spent an amazing week here we took our dog and the caravan (other than one bedroom being damp and cold but it's a caravan so expected) was excellent was a bit worried about being bronze but really didn't need to be, we stayed flexi dine and the food at the smugglers inn restaurant was first class Jeff and Chris can't do enough for you and genuinely care about the quality of food they serve you so always made to very high standards and HUGE portions especially the lamb shank!, the pool was lovely and warm and it is located in an extremely good area with good access to the whole riviera.

Just spent 4 nights 2/6/14 at number 195. Great spot with lovely views, caravan was very well kept and extremely clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful, The park is very well maintained and is kept very clean and tidy, There is a local bus service, just outside the park, which runs every 10 minutes to Brixham,Paignton andTorquay I did not need to use the car the whole time during my stay. I would certainly recommend Waterside, and will be returning again.
