“Gem of a place run by a very special lady”
Reviewed 30 April 2011

The moment we arrived we knew we had made the right choice, the welcome was great and I liked the Owner, Pauline, instantly.

The rooms were of such a high quality and so clean you could be forgiven for thinking you were in a top class hotel, From the egyption cotton sheets and orthapedic mattress that ensures a great night's sleep to the little extras that help to make the stay so special like the little refridgeraor in the room that keeps your chocolate cool.

The breakfasts at The Cherwood are to die for and you will never walk out of this wonderful place hungry, most days we couldn't eat lunch so good was the breakfast. Nothing is too much trouble for Pauline and her team, she takes pride in the service she offers and many others, hotels included, could learn a lesson or two from her attention to detail and the way she ensures that you go away with the feeling that YOU are the most important person in the hotel.

Being so close to the amenities and travel links within Paignton means that you don't even have to drive again till you leave to go home if you don't want to. Although Paignton is a little tired, it still has an a lot going for it. it is close to some beautiful safe beaches in Goodrington & Broadsands the activities that surround Paignton too offer a lot, from a walk in a park or along the front to the Zoo and the Pitch & putt course plus a host of others. There are some really excellent restaurants in the local area, the Harbour Lights offers some of the best fish I have tasted anywhere and there is a great Thai Restaurant in the high street not to mention the abundance of cafe's and chippies.

This was my first stay in Paignton but it wont be my last - Providing I can get a room with Pauline of course.

A great place to stay, 2 mins from sea front and town centre. Rooms are Big, bright, clean and airy.
The breakfast is wonderful with all the ingredients locally sourced as well as home made jams and marmalades, really sets you up for the day.
Pauline made us feel very welcome and was always available to advise us on places to visit and restaurants to eat in.
All in all a wonderful hotel which we would highly recommend and we will certainly stay here again if visiting the area.

Twenty months on from my previous stay and so pleased to say it was still as i remembered it. The wit and bonhomie of Pauline and Sue, the gi-normous breakfasts, clean, well maintained and well looked after rooms and the obvious pride and care Pauline takes in the Cherwood compared to some bigger, more corporate hotels. Close to the sea-front, the cinema, the town centre and the railway station, you can feel at ease here and really relax and enjoy your break. I believe Cherwood really represents great value for money and look forward to going back again in the future.

Room Tip: Check out the marmalades!

Had a really good stay at the Cherwood. My room was comfortable and charming, the location is handy, the breakfast is immense. Service with a smile and a sense of humour.

This was our 5th year staying at the Cherwood. You cannot ask for more. The hotel is situated 2 minutes from the Seafront one way and 2 minutes from the Town centre the other. The standard is 5 star. Nothing is every to much trouble for Pauline. Breakfast what can I say. It is huge from cereals to cooked as you like it and any combination to fresh fruit. You can even have fresh fish. There is no limit just help yourself. All the rooms are cleaned to a very high standard and serviced every day. (Pauline will not accept any thing less). All rooms are equipped with flat screen TVs, DAB radio, wifi, mini fridge and ceiling fans. What you cannot forget are the beds. Top quality mattresses on all beds. (I never have a problem sleeping at the Cherwood). Also there is a licensed bar where you can enjoy a nightcap with Pauline or a catch up with the other residents. The only down side is time always goes to fast and before you know it its time to head back home. Never mind already counting down to next year. As Mary Poppins would say Practically Perfect in ever way!

Another wonderful trip down to Paignton, staying in the Cherwood. Nothing is too much trouble for Pauline, stayed in our usual 4 Poster room and treated like royalty once again for our stay. Son enjoyed the games room and as usual, the breakfast was excellent. No complaints and looking forward to another trip down to the area next year.

I stayed at the Cherwood mid September 2010 and not knowing the estabishment, took pot luck. I have stayed in so called five star hotels all over the country through necessity. But i know which i prefer. Pauline is a fabulous hostess and her breakfasts are second to none. I was made very welcome and comfortable the minute i arrived.Ok the rooms are practical, but what do you want ? Five Star ?. You sleep and eat well. Thoroughly recommended.
