We returned yet again to our favourite Paignton tea/coffee venue, the Palace Hotel overlooking the Green on Paignton's sea front. Easter weekend just behind us, the holiday season ahead of us, we popped in for a cup of tea after shopping in the town. "You'd be better off having a cream tea, it works out cheaper than tea, scones and jam," advised the Receptionist. So as advised, we opted for a cream-tea-for-two.

We seated ourselves in the conservatory restaurant and a little while later a waiter approached us to say that Chef was very sorry, but he had run out of clotted cream and was just whipping up some double cream for us, if that was alright? We assured him that it was, and a little while later, our cream tea appeared - a warm fruit scone each, whipped double cream in individual dishes, and two little pots of Wilkin & Son Tiptree Strawberry jam each.

The scones were substantial in size but light in texture and didn't crumble into pieces when split in two. They were, indeed, an ideal conveyance for the cream and jam (cream on first in Devon, jam on top!) The tea (I didn't specify a speciality tea) was strong and hot, just what we needed on a sunny but very cold early April afternoon.

Well done, Palace. Top marks, yet again, for simple, good food, at a reasonable price.

Have stayed in this hotel several times. You always get a friendly welcome and a cup of tea/biscuits. Rooms are nicely decorated and always spotlessly clean. Sue and her team in the restaurant do you proud at all mealtimes. Always a delight to eat there. Hotel is right on the front opposite the pier so in best location.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more for a sea view, or spoil yourself with a room in original part of hotel.

Stayed last weekend with my partner and we both had a great time. The staff were excellent, helpful and polite. The six course dinners were luxurious, very high quality and the kitchen/ dining room staff were superb. To be honest I can't see why this hotel is only three stars, deserves higher. Excellent location for travelling around the torbay area too. Highly recommend to all, will be visiting again,

Being a coach driver I go to loads of Hotels. I can honestly say "this is the best by far".
The rooms are very comfortable and have modern freeview TV's and large wardrobes and a decently sized bathroom with a bath with shower over.
the meals here are beyond belief. the food is so well cooked and is so very tasty.
the waitress staff are very well turned out and very polite and helpful.
The reception staff are fantastic also and can not do enough for you either.
Also just outside the main building there is a Pool/Steam room and sauna.
With ample parking available this really is a great all around hotel.

Just across the road is a large green and just beyond that is the Promenade and then the beach.
Its a 2 minute walk to the start of the town and around a 5 min walk to the train and bus/coach station.

This really is a very well run and presented hotel and I would advise anyone who is looking for a hotel in Paignton to try here first.

Fantastic hotel, clean, warm and roomy. Food excellent - silver service. There is a superb indoor swimming pool. I consider this hotel good value for money and would most certainly stay there again. I certainly will recommend it.

Room Tip: There are rooms with balcanies, although not over noisy stay away from lift.
