If you are sick of fish and chips, greasy food and fry ups then book a table at The Palm Tree. We had a really tasty dinner here accurately reflecting the other trip advisor reviews. To start we had Baked Camembert and the Beetroot, Hazelnut & Orange Salad with a Goats Cheese Mousse. Both starters were nicely cooked, well presented and fully of flavour. For mains we choose Steak with Dauphinoise Potatoes and the Pork Three Ways. Like the starters both were cooked perfectly and left us far to full to manage a dessert. This was a real shame as the desserts looked great as well. There are a couple of small niggles that stopped me from rating this place 5 stars. Service was fairly slow and a little nervous at times and perhaps it felt a little bit expensive. With slightly swifter and more confident service and perhaps a cheaper set menu option I would have given The Palm Tree 5 stars. If you are not in a hurry, book a table, loosen your belt and enjoy some great cooking. That said The Palm Tree probably serves the best food we saw in Paignton and gave the impression it will only get better and better, a 5 star rating is not far off!
