“Great food and great service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

Me and my boyfriend used to be regulars of the dilshad and since it's closed down and the owner is running both the restaurants from the Ganges we thought we would try it here. It was a quiet night in this restaurant so can't comment when it's busy. However, we were greeted and looked after since we stepped in the door. The staff were very attentive. We also had a conversation with the owner about the dilshad and he seemed to remember us from there which is always nice! The food was really enjoyable! The portions are very generous. As someone has already mentioned the front door does need to be changed as it doesn't shut properly and it gets very cold! The men's toilet door also needs replacing as people leave this open and the staff are forever closing it! Apart from this... A very nice meal and will definitely be returning!

“In defence of restaurant.. previous review 'be prepared for long wait'”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

We were sitting at the adjoining table to the family who made the comments about the long wait and noisy customers at the Ganges.... In defence of the restaurant, it was the Easter Bank Holiday Saturday... the first really busy weekend of the year, and the staff were doing their best to cope with orders from customers who had intended going to the Dalshad as well as their own customers, and presumably also dealing with takeaway orders for both restaurants. My husband and I had only recently discovered The Ganges a few weeks ago, but it's popularity was obvious so we went in prepared to be told that unless we had booked we would not be able to have a table, but they did manage to squeeze us in. One of the occupants of the adjoining table did mention to us that they had been waiting for over an hour, and that they had intended to go to the Dalshad.. so they hadn't booked either, but had secured a table for 6. They were anxious about time they had paid for parking, and, sod's law, the two gentleman decided to go and pay for more time just as their meal arrived. The 'noisy group' consisted of four people, 2 young women and supposedly their spouses/partners enjoying a lively evening out and yes they weren't exactly quiet! But it was perhaps an evening out without the children and it was happy laughter and not offensive....and as for not being able to hold a conversation because of their noise, my husband and I had a quite long and interesting conversation with one of the gentlemen at the table that made the complaint. We had also assumed that the waitress knew the 'noisy' ones, but when we chatted with her later she said that she hadn't known them and was just doing her job in making them welcome. We will definitely be making this restaurant one of our regulars whenever we visit Paignton, which is several times a year... but have now made a note of the telephone number so that we can book in advance....The food really is very good!!!!!

“Be prepared for a very long wait”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 April 2014

My family and I went for a meal at this restaurant but only because we intended going to the Dilshad but it was closed and customers were directed to The Ganges. We parked in a nearby car park and paid for two hours, thinking this would be adequate - Oh dear! The orders for drinks and starters were taken fairly quickly and arrived quickly too but it was ONE AND A HALF HOURS later that we had to ask where our main courses were as we only had just over half an hour before the car park ticket ran out, in fact, another ticket had to be paid for to make sure we had enough time to eat the food. It arrived just after the one and a half hours and everyone was satisfied with the food. There were two other downsides while we were there. The door didn't shut properly and either the waiters did it or our grandson had to keep getting up to shut it which was difficult because it was being opened many times either by customers coming and going or a takeaway delivery man and so cold air would hit us every time. As they obviously know of this fault they should really do something about it. A group of customers came in who were very loud but they knew the waitress who was even louder! She chatted to them for several minutes and it was hard to hold a conversation because of the noise they were making.

From arriving at 7.30pm and leaving at 10.00pm I have to say this absolutely spoilt the evening and we will not be going back again no matter how good the food was.

“Inexpensive quality takeaway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2014

I have used Ganges Indian Tandoori Restaurant takeaway service several times before, but have not as yet written a review. As usual, my wife and I chose from the 'Specials' list posted on their front window. A choice of lamb or chicken main course; mild curry, korma, vindaloo, etc., plus rice, onion bajee, bombay potato and popadom. You also receive a small tub of pouring sauce (mint, etc.) and some salad, all for £6.95 per person. Absolute bargain!

On this occasion we both chose to have the mild chicken curry. Each main course contained several big pieces of chicken and lashings of curry sauce which was delicious. The rice soaked up the curry sauce and tasted good. The bajees and the potatoes were first class. We were thoroughly satisfied.

The service was both quick and friendly. The packaged up food was brought out and carried to the front door and after the waiter opened the door for me, he handed me the food with a smile and a thank you.

I can't wait until our next 'curry takeaway night'. Hopefully soon, we will even have a meal in the clean and beautifully decorated restaurant itself.
