“Really lovely hotel”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

Lovely rooms, lovely staff and great location. Food was excellent - dinner and breakfast. Girls working in the restaurant were very friendly and accommodating - nothing was too much trouble. Ample tea/coffee provisions in the room. Wished we could have stayed for longer.

Really pleased we picked this hotel to stay at when celebrating my husband's 50th birthday. When we arrived we were shown into a room with comfortable sofas and chairs and offered teas/coffees before we were shown to our room -this was a really nice touch and so much better than having to make a drink ourselves once in our room. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable - we both slept well despite it being the hottest weekend of the year! We didn't use it but the room with drinks and an honesty box for when the bar was closed was a good idea too. My husband has a good appetite but even he found the full English too much - he needed the walk to Brixham to walk it off. Location really good - 5 minutes to beach and a ten minute walk into town. Staff were all professional and friendly. Couldn't ask for more. I would definitely stay here again.

This is not the first time that myself and my wife had stayed at the Summerhill, and it certainly will not be the last! The former residence of a Royal Navy Chaplain and sympathetically maintained to a very high standard, this hotel is well worth seeking out. Very close to, and overlooking an excellent beach this hotel provides a quiet and peaceful environment for the weary traveller. Our main priorities when staying at a hotel have always been cleanliness, good food, obliging staff, location and value for money. The Summerhill exceeds our expectations in all of those categories plus adequate safe parking. The superb breakfast is enjoyed in a bright, spacious conservatory with a sea view and the sound of sea gulls. The secret of this hotel? It is owned and run by a close knit family fully committed to customer satisfaction! A rare but welcome quality in this modern world. Andy & Brenda.

Room Tip: Just ask the helpful staff which room would suit you best!

This wonderful family run hotel came to our rescue when a previously booked Hotel in Teignmouth failed to provide the disabled facilities we had based our booking on.

We were truly welcomed from the moment we arrived, our adapted room was spotless and the view from the dining room across the bay was enchanting. Breakfast was a veritable feast, more than we could manage, likewise dinner, we could only ever manage two courses. Service by various family members was very helpful and friendly while remaining discreet, and it was lovely to relax with a coffee after dinner out on the balcony, or in the homely and comfortable lounge.
The standard of furnishings was top quality throughout, and the atmosphere quiet and relaxing,

Thank you for turning a nightmare into a dream - we would not hesitate to recommend this Hotel to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat of a very high standard.

Room Tip: We noticed a couple of rooms had balconies which looked out over the bay.

Yet another wonderful holiday staying at Summerhill, this is our 8th year. After our long journey from West Yorkshire we are always made very welcome and are fully relaxed immediately, the owners & staff are always very obliging to help if needed. The breakfast sets us up for the day and we always eat in the Hotel on an evening, the meals are always excellent, very good value for money. The hotel is very clean & comfortable, a real credit to everyone concerned. A BIG THANK YOU once again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the shaded side with a balcony, recommended.

We really enjoyed our 10 night stay. We were met on the Saturday when we arrived and offered a much needed drink of tea. Room had a balcony the doors of which we never closed as our time there was over the heatwave period. Therefore the room was reasonably cool at all times. The breakfast was as good as anywhere we have ever stayed both in quality and quantity and variation. We took advantage of the free admission to the Torbay Leisure Centre and used the swimming pool and spa facilities every morning before breakfast. The hotel is situated central to enable you to visit all of Torbay. Which we did. The staff are friendly and the hotel has a peaceful atmosphere. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

We found this hotel on the internet, we dont normally book room so just turned up. we were shown three rooms and chose room 8 with balcony for three nights. we ordered the full breakfast on the first morning and the food was truly magnificent (too much in fact) so the next two mornings i chose the haddock and egg. i have never had eggs cooked so good before.
the only thing stopping giving 5 stars was the shower gel and water was not replaced daily but this is a minor issue. we went in very hot weather and the rooms were hot overnight but this would have been the same anywhere plus the sea is only 5 minutes walk away
