“A Fantastic Getaway”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

Stayed for a long weekend in August 2014 and the family absolutely loved it. We were disappointed we only stayed 4 nights. The public rooms are beautiful with fantastic views to boot. The private rooms are great and completely spotless. Breakfast (included!) is homemade and to die for! The hotel is just a short walk from the beach and other local stops.
But what really wins you over is the staff. To say they are wonderful is an understatement entirely. They are very welcoming, friendly, and bend over backwards for you without a second thought. My only complaint was being called 'sir' in such a homey and welcoming atmosphere.

This is, and feels, like a family-run hotel. Don't be mislead by the rather old-fashioned furniture into thinking that the comfort and service are anything but fresh. The dining room and lounge are spacious and comfortable, with a fine view over the western bay. I stayed for four weekday nights in mid August, had a comfortable double room and balcony to myself, and was impressed by the friendly service and good food. I do like breakfasts where they come and ask your what you would like them to cook. On the third night I had dinner in the restaurant, and repeated the experience on the fourth. Very enjoyable.

Room Tip: Go for a balcony with evening sun if you can.

Stayed 4 nights. Really clean well run hotel. Large room. Nice bar area. Friendly staff. Good location for the beach and getting in to the harbour area. A lot of the restaurants shut early so be warned.

This is a wonderful family hotel, where they make you feel so very welcome that you relax straight away! Good location, with easy parking where you can walk to the seafront , with a cafe, boating pool, nature garden and lots to do, without getting into the car! But we also went by steam train to Greenway ( shut Mon and some Tues) which was great, and drove to Coleton Fishacre ( shut Fri) .
The breakfasts were superb with herring and kipper options for him and veggie for me. So we chose to eat in at night too, with excellent food and the wonderful views, a nice drawing room with desk to relax in after dinner. But the nicest thing was the family who had time to chat and gave great service to all their guests. I'd feel very happy coming here on my own, or in a group as the family will give you the help you need to make your stay comfortable. This hotel feels like a four star experience and we thoroughly recommend it!

We stood two weeks in Summerhill Hotel, because we joined a langauge course at LAL Torbay. Just to get to the heart - it was perfect.
The whole staff was friendly, we had a nice, quiet and clean room (WIFI was also free). The food was really good and breakfast at Summerhill was always a fantastic experience.
Summerhill Hotel is highly recommended.

Friendly, outgoing staff, lovely, healthy food (the sea-food dishes were absolutely delightful) and also quite important, very clean and tidy.I stayed for two weeks feeling at home every minute of it. With the beach not far away, what more can you wish. If you are not happy there, you will not be anywhere else!

Room Tip: As the hotel is situated in the surrounding area of Torbay, it is very quiet at night. With the fres...
