“Spotlessly Clean”
Reviewed 11 September 2013

We selected the Beecroft Lodge Guest House from a Google search on the internet - it ticked all the boxes and was well placed for a short stay on the English Riviera. On arrival we had difficulty parking but hosts Rod and Diane quickly showed us to the rear of the property where parking was very limited and we had to unhook the heavy chains across the drive before entering and then hook them back again after parking. For the remainder of our stay we had to park in St Andrews Road (no restrictions, but not ideal - good streetlighting). Rod & Diane are the perfect hosts, their establishment is spotlessly clean (outstandingly so) and their hospitality is second to none. Breakfast served between 8.30 and 9.15am is a little brief - we are on holiday and do not wish to set the alarm in order not to miss breakfast, 8.30 to 10am would be more realistic. However, aided by their parents, Rod & Diane's breakfasts were cooked to perfection and the selective menu (chosen the day before by completing a list) was extremely comprehensive. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room (#9) was on the top floor, so two flights of steep stairs had to be negotiated but, described as a "superior king" , we were rewarded with a room which was light, airy, spotlessly clean and well presented. Only two disappointments; the bathroom, which was also immaculate was small and there was no where to place your own toiletries - ours remained in our toilet bag out in the bedroom until needed. The shower also required attention and only drizzled out. The power switch for the shower was outside the bathroom (possibly a health & safely requirement) which meant that if you forgot to switch it on before entering the bathroom once you are stripped off and ready to go, you will need to dress again and step outside of the bathroom to switch on the power!! All in all, a difficult encounter first thing in the morning. Second problem was the quality of the bed. Sadly, it was not of high quality and after a season of use the mattress was well worn and sloped to one side where previous guests had sat on the side of the bed. The interior springing (if there ever was any) was well worn. We lost the first night's sleep completely, as we had to re-organise the mattress at about 3am in order to gain any quality rest - sadly we encountered this problem each night so I cannot say that our stay was completely restful.

On the whole this is a delightful place to stay, despite the difficulties explained above, and we would return again in visiting the area but ... Rod & Diane ... I think it is time to replace your beds and put a couple of shelves or hooks in the bathroom of #9. Other than that, we cannot complain.

Room Tip: Check how old the beds are before booking to ensure a good night's sleep.

Just come back from a lovely 3 night stay at the beecroft lodge, me and my partner couldn't fault it, every thing was perfect. Breakfast was gorgeous very well planed you fill slip in and leave on hall table the night before and even better smoked salmon and scrambled egg were in with the breakfast menu at no extra cost...... Bedroom was spotless..... Rod and Diane were top hosts.... Would certainly recommend the beecroft lodge to everyone wanting a holiday near or in Paignton.
Also recommended eating out in Torquay jingles Mexican and Bianco Italian.....
Vicky and mark.

Room Tip: Top room no 7

We stayed in a standard double bedroom (room No6) at the Beecroft. We were lucky to find a parking space upon arrival and did not move until leaving as I feared I may not regain my place again. With, I believe nine rooms, there is only parking for 5 so others have to trust to local roadside parking spaces. We were welcomed and shown our room - all prepared - with no fuss having paid our bill - note a credit card surcharge for card payments.
The establishment is clean and of a good standard throughout starting with a cooked breakfast and ending in a comfy bed at night. There is a rear garden patio which is closed when the owners are out and a bar (which we did not use).
We noticed - somewhat surprised - to find the bathroom only had net curtains in place rather than frosted glass - facing the main street - so the curtains were drawn all day and night. Similar curtains (light weight) in the bedroom did not not keep out the early morning sunrise so no late lye ins! I should also mention the B & B is located on a rather steep bank, which unless you are young & fit may find it a daunting climb especially after a long day out. The beach & shops are all within a five minute walk.
However in all we were pleased with our stay and can recommend providing you note our comments and come prepared.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the third floor unless you don't mind the two flight of stairs.

Chose the beecroft lodge because it is highly rated.
we were not dissapointed.
Arrived by very friendly staff and showm to our room.
the room was very cosy and very clean, the cleanest room/b&b we have ever stayed in.
Extremely comfy bed and quality shower.
the breakfast was to die for and is cooked to your liking.
we will be coming back here as it was a real pleasure and we were very well looked after.

Very comfy and cozy place to stay. Loved the room and breakfast. Host seemed very nice and were considerate of the breakfast choices. If I go back I wouldn't mind staying in the same place.
I also have to admit that the room was very clean.

This was our first visit to beecroft for a weekend break and it was very clean, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was always very good and Diane was very chirpy first thing, as well as the parrot! Both Rod and Diane are excellent hosts with a good knowledge of the area and know a very good place for an evening meal (harbour lights). It's in a very good location as most things are within walking distance. Would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.

Stayed a week at the Beecroft Lodge. Really enjoyed our stay. There was a place off road for our car, although we only used it one day whilst there. The room had a view over to Torquay. The location was perfect to reach both Paignton sea front and also Goodrington sands. A short walk and you are at the railway station and bus station. My partner is a coeliac and had gluten free toast every morning. Enjoyed the breakfasts we had, plenty of choice to be had.

Room Tip: We had the top room at the front with king size bed. Not sure on views from other rooms.
