We selected the Beecroft Lodge Guest House from a Google search on the internet - it ticked all the boxes and was well placed for a short stay on the English Riviera. On arrival we had difficulty parking but hosts Rod and Diane quickly showed us to the rear of the property where parking was very limited and we had to unhook the heavy chains across the drive before entering and then hook them back again after parking. For the remainder of our stay we had to park in St Andrews Road (no restrictions, but not ideal - good streetlighting). Rod & Diane are the perfect hosts, their establishment is spotlessly clean (outstandingly so) and their hospitality is second to none. Breakfast served between 8.30 and 9.15am is a little brief - we are on holiday and do not wish to set the alarm in order not to miss breakfast, 8.30 to 10am would be more realistic. However, aided by their parents, Rod & Diane's breakfasts were cooked to perfection and the selective menu (chosen the day before by completing a list) was extremely comprehensive. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room (#9) was on the top floor, so two flights of steep stairs had to be negotiated but, described as a "superior king" , we were rewarded with a room which was light, airy, spotlessly clean and well presented. Only two disappointments; the bathroom, which was also immaculate was small and there was no where to place your own toiletries - ours remained in our toilet bag out in the bedroom until needed. The shower also required attention and only drizzled out. The power switch for the shower was outside the bathroom (possibly a health & safely requirement) which meant that if you forgot to switch it on before entering the bathroom once you are stripped off and ready to go, you will need to dress again and step outside of the bathroom to switch on the power!! All in all, a difficult encounter first thing in the morning. Second problem was the quality of the bed. Sadly, it was not of high quality and after a season of use the mattress was well worn and sloped to one side where previous guests had sat on the side of the bed. The interior springing (if there ever was any) was well worn. We lost the first night's sleep completely, as we had to re-organise the mattress at about 3am in order to gain any quality rest - sadly we encountered this problem each night so I cannot say that our stay was completely restful.
On the whole this is a delightful place to stay, despite the difficulties explained above, and we would return again in visiting the area but ... Rod & Diane ... I think it is time to replace your beds and put a couple of shelves or hooks in the bathroom of #9. Other than that, we cannot complain.
