“great little hotel everything you need”
Reviewed 5 June 2011

lovely hotel, the owner was very helpful, and very friendly. lovely welcome when we got to the hotel. the room was very clean, comfortable and en-suite. the car was parked on a patch of grass outside the hotel, which was quite solid and didn't resemble a muddy field as suggested in other reviews. there was a padlocked chain across the opening and the car was visible from the room. were given a key to the padlock, but had no need to move the car once parked up as the hotel was in an ideal location for a 2 minute walk to sea front, entertainment, restaurants shopping etc, also train station and public transport. the breakfast was at 8.30am, which was not a problem, had it have been 6.30 this wouldn't have been a problem, but wouldn't be fair to expect jackie to start cooking at 6.30 and still be cooking at 9.30-10 for people who want to lie in!!!!! she served 11 people at once and recieved no complaints from any of us only that we couldn't eat much more lol, due to the fact we had, orange juice, pot of coffee pot of tea, from which my husband drank 3 cups, full english breakfast, with toast (breakfast was 2 bacon, 1 sausage 1 egg, beans, mushrooms, a whole fried tomato, fried bread) also bread, butter, jam and marmalade, which from any cafe, would have cost at least £10-£15, and was also asked if we wanted any more toast, the breakfast was served toeveryone piping hot, for which jackie deserved some credit. our room was at the top of a second staircase, which was not a problem, had either me or my husband had a problem with stairs, we would have asked about this before booking the room. there was tea and coffee in the room, which we drank straight away after a 3 hour drive. on the top of the fist set of stairs, were extra tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits, alongside what i would describe as, an honesty box, from which we had 2 satchets of tea with 2 tea bags in each, 2 satchets of milk, a cappachino, sugars and 2 finger kitkats, to which i left a £1. i would imagine that the owners of the hotel would have to pay for these, so did not see any problem with this small charge. an alternative would have been to walk to a local cafe, which would have cost us more. all this above has cost us around £50, which after stopping in several hotels, we consider excellent value. we searched for quite a few hours for an hotel on the internet, the average price was around £85, one of these hotels was a well known hotel, which we walked past whilst there and noticed it had parking meters on their carpark, which would have been an extra charge on top of £85, so overall excellent value with the added warm hospitality. would recommend this place to anyone.

Arrived at the b&b not as good as we expected,on.suite was small to say the least.Hit your head on glass shelf when trying to clean your teeth.Only given two coffee & two tea a day per couple,if you wanted more you had to pay for it..Bed hard, had hair in among fry up on first morning. We asked for a sea view ,wish we hadn't ,you can only just about see it,and the room was at the top of a steep flight of stairs.Had to be down at eight thirty for breakfast, when asked what time it went on till Jakie the owner said ,that's it eight thirty,so you have got no chance of a lie in.We were the only one's there at the time.

Room Tip: Read plenty of reviews before making your mind up.

My husband and I stayed there for 3 nights last week and it was a treat to be able to have a smoking room. The room and hotel were spotless. The room was quite small but had everything one needed. Great central location and a lovely breakfast. Very well run. Would visit again.

I was staying with a friend for a weekend break. The B&B was in a good quiet location with free parking. The twin room itself was fine for the price we paid - old fashioned but an ok size, clean, with small ensuite, kettle, tv, hairdryer. There was a guest lounge which we didn't use, lots of leaflets for things to do in the area, and books and games to borrow if you want to. The food at breakfast was good quality (loved the bacon) and a reasonable portion size - cereal, full English and toast.
However I felt they let themselves down on the customer service front. It was not a good welcome to be told off for parking in the wrong place before I'd got out of the car, neither did I expect to have to choose breakfast before I'd seen the room. When I asked to take my case to the room first, I was told this would inconvenience them. Breakfast is at a non-negotiable 8.30 a.m., so no flexibility for a lie-in, and if you want more than the 2 teabags /2 coffee sachets provided in the room per day you are expected to pay for more.
In summary, if you want a cheapish clean quiet room with no frills and a decent breakfast, this place fits the bill, as long as you don't mind occasionally being treated as if you are still in school.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for the weekend. The hotel is spotless, the breakfast is one of the best I have ever had, everything is piping hot. My friend who is vegetarian was accommodated for extremely well and nothing was too much trouble for Jackie the owner.
The hotel felt like a home from home and is close to the beach and all of the amenities and there is free car parking which is an added advantage is car parking in Paignton is getting scarce these days.

We stayed at this hotel as my mum had just come out of hospital (I would normally stay with her) however I have to say I would definately stay at the hotel again and would recommend it to anyone.
