We stay in the sands around the same time every year (travelling for business to the local waste management show) It is like a home away from home, Brian, Lorraine, Jonathan & scooby are so welcoming and nothing is too much trouble.
The breakfasts are fantastic and with a well stocked bar the sands has everything we always need. The bedrooms are immaculately clean and stocked with great toiletries. I look forward to going back each year as although I stay here for business the atmosphere created makes it feel like a holiday.

The best Hotel to stay in at Paignton. Great atmosphere, good fun, frindly, just like staying with family. The place is spotless and breakfast is marvellouse. Would recomend the sands to anybody. Been there a few times over past few years after trying others, nobody matches the Sands. There is one drawback:- you never want to leave

Room Tip: all rooms are good but a Sea View is the best

When I book somewhere i'm a bit fussy about cleanliness. Like a fellow reviewer, I watch the hotel inspector, three in a bed programmes, also my parents used to own a hotel and am amazed at some of the places people will stay in.
You won't be disappointed at The Sands, its imaculate!!!
Fresh bedding and towels, complimentary toiletries and beverage tray. (top brand names too) even the toilet roll is good quality, need I say more. This immaculate presentation continues throughout the hotel, bar. dining room, well everywhere to be honest.

Well we are home eating boring old toast this morning for breakfast wishing we were still at the sands enjoying the huge and hearty breakfast Lorriane prepares for you every morning.
With help from Elaine and Brian, this breakfast will I promise, set you up for the day, branded cereals and jams/marmalade and as much tea/coffee/juices as you want. Toast in abundance thats after the full english. 2 large rashers, sausage, egg (fried, poached or scrambed) beans, fresh mushrooms and tomato, hash brown. Massive! There are healthier options if you want grapefruit, prunes, porridge, yoghurt and fresh fruit and low fat, sugar free alternatives but I'm on holiday and will leave that to those who have will power.
The hotel was full of returning guests, which speaks for its self, maybe one or two were newbees but that was not obvious, the welcome extended to all is second to none even if your on your own visiting you will probably go home with a list of new found friends, it really is home from home.
We leave our car in the car park at the Hotel and explore the Bay by bus. The hotel is close to all amenties a flat walk and fabulous views.
I use this site when looking up holidays and am very honest when giving my critic.
I have stayed in other hotels before finding the sands and since as they close over the winter months, but honestly none match up to the grade for cleanliness, welcome, comfort or food.
You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: A seaview room is a few pounds more but worth it. The location means you can people watch in comfort...

You know I really don't think you could get a warmer welcome if you were staying with family. Lorraine and Brian go out of their way to make you feel at home. From lifting cases out of the car to having a well stocked umbrella rack in the bright and what has the potential to be sunny reception area. The first thing which strikes you is free parking which is something of a bonus in Paignton now a days. The frontage although small, will comfortably take 4 or 5 cars and there's also road parking around the back too.
It's so CLEAN! Being a fan of the Hotel Inspector and 'Three in a Bed,' I was there trying to find fault but none could be found. Well done Donna you do a grand job, I'm still convinced you have a set square for evenly spacing magazines. LOL
I had the single room which was more than amble. It had a highly efficient shower in the room and a toilet alcove, there's only you so who cares! The room's CLEAN and brightly furnished to a high standard. It was good to see a welcome tray which stuck to the basics, although it clearly stated you could ask away for fancy tea etc.
Breakfast was not for the faint hearted, cereals, juice, toast and the full English were all on offer to be enjoyed. Along with this came good old fashioned personal service! All our eggs were cooked differenly and each and every one to perfection - the sign of a good cook. Just nothing was tooo much trouble. Lorraine and Brian were both on hand to offer ideas for trips out and friendly banter.
Over the years I've visited lots of establishments in Paignton, this one makes you want to cancel your holiday in Spain and enjoy QUALITY hospitality. In fact guarentee me two hot and sunny weeks in the summer and I'd be down like a shot.
If you want a nice hair do - The Vanilla Lounge opposite was very friendly and competative too. It's handy to know that there is a free to use ATM machine on the pier, you have to go through the amusements as it's hidden away.
The Sands is a 5* establishment at cheaper than Travel Lodge prices, with the added extra of service with a smile!!! Give it a go, I promise you wont be disappointed!

Room Tip: The sea views are spectacular, but if they're booked, it wouldn't deter me staying there.

The whole experience was marvellous from start to finish; Brian, Lorraine, Johnathon and the best of all, Scooby. I would just like to thank them all for probably the best weekend we have ever had, the room was we believe 5* standard and the service second to none, nothing is too much for them all - and the breakfast.. well.. Thank you Lorraine, it really was the best!

We have stayed at many hotels over the years, and this is by far the best.Brian and Lorraine are so accomadating and are only to happy to assisst with any issues that may occur during your stay. The rooms are spotless and the breakfast is the best l have had at any hotel. The Sands is situated in such a lovely position that you are not too far from all that Paington offers, with only a short bus or car ride to Torquay or Brixham.I love this place and have already booked for next year,so see you then for another action packed week,Ian and Karen.

Room Tip: We have room 9, it`s on the top but the view is fantastic

After reading other reviews it seemed to good to be true, after staying there for 7 days we found it to be excellent . Brian Lorraine and Jonathan could not do enough for us they make you feel most welcome just like old friends. The hotel is spotlessley clean and very roomy the breakfast is second to none with plenty of choice. Brian keeps a well stocked bar for those evenings in,even has outside heating on the patio that overlooks the seafront, already booked for next year (can't wait)
