“Good value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2014

We have just returned from a 4 night break staying at the Torbay Court with GB tours. The hotel is a bit dated but it looks as if the owners are in the process of updating it. We returned from a trip one day to find 2 modern LED bedside lights had been installed! Breakfast and Dinner were very good and the service was excellent. It's not 5 star and we weren't expecting it to be, for the money we paid I can't understand how they make any profit. There was entertainment every night and the tours were well organised. Paignton was lovely and is a very good base for touring. good value for money and we would stay there again.

Booked a weekend with GB Tours with my boyfriend.I'd say we may have been the youngest at 50 and fifty-five. Everyone on the coach was lovely and age was not an issue .The driver Dave from Gordon's Coaches who sub contract to GB was help ,pleasant and very informative. Coach trips were also very good and we found Brixham especially nice deciding to go across to Torquay from there on the boat which only cost £1.
The hotel itself was welcoming. However I do regret not following the advise of someone else's reviews and not requesting one of the upstairs rooms that have been refurbished. ours was clean ,but musky and the toilet not screwed properly to the floor that we reported immediately.
The dining room was well organised ,breakfast good choices. Dinner was ok with 3 choices and the veg was all fresh.
All the staff were very nice( Emma particularly).
Paighton is a good base for getting to see the beautiful areas around.

This hotel could be lovely, it's well situated, just off the seafront and in a nice quiet area. The building is interesting. However that's all good that I can say! We had room 52' it's at the top of difficult stairs next to some awful noisy airing cupboard which housed some form of air conditioning unit that was on and off for about 15 seconds all the time! The decor in the rooms been dated but so badly. The bed linen was atrocious, a waterproof sheet not put on properly was our bottom layer. The pillows like old rocks and the mattress was horrible! The curtains were dirty and the track broken. We stayed with several other couples and they all said the same about their rooms. We paid £75 foot the room and breakfast. Onto the breakfast, cheap granulated coffee served in a tea pot but advertised as fresh ground coffee, the staff corrected this when we questioned it. The breakfast was 8-9 am which is ridiculous for a Sunday!

Over all if would never stay here again nor recommend it, it's a rabbit warren of shabby decor, maintenance and never worthy of the price!

Room Tip: Wouldn't recommend! Needs updating and love putting in!

We stayed 4night over Easter on a coach break with Voels the hotel was very good food excellent, staff unbelievely helpful & friendly we stayed in room 27 which had a large bay window & was a pleasant room bed was very comfortable people who complain about this hotel should stay in a 5* hotel & pay 5* prices if you want to complain try the Grand inScarborough there is plenty to complain about there the Torbay Court is very good value for the money paid

Room Tip: Try room 27 corner room not a bad size by the way there is no swimming pool

Stayed here April Easter time with coach tour. Not bad for what we paid although yes the furniture is a bit old bed was comfortable . Room was above the entertainment so noisy although it finished at 11pm so that ok. However we awoken on our last night by a radio playing at 4 am My husband is hard of hearing but even he could hear it fed up by 5.15 am so he went down and a member of staff was in lounge feet up listening to it!!! Told him to switch off which he did but by that time we were wide awake so not happy. Food was good and plenty of staff to serve it and the staff were very happy and polite. With a little updating will be a better standard although cannot see how the bathroom would be any better because it is very small. We always take extra coat hangers with us because in most hotels there is never enough.

Have just returned from a weekend break with GB Tours, at what was a remarkably low price. Bearing this in mind, the Torbay Court Hotel was a middle of the road establishment. The staff were outstanding, the food was good, but the premises are under development and still need a bit of tidying up. I'm sure that once this is accomplished, the ratings will rocket.

The location is good, but everything about this hotel just seems half hearted. They've obviously tried to refurbish some of the rooms, but have not included the bathrooms. They've also left wires hanging out of the wall covered by plastic boxes.

The bed in our room seemed quite new and was comfortable enough but the rest of the furniture seemed to be low quality.

The bathroom wasn't very clean and the paint was peeling away from the single glazed window frame. It took ages for the water to warm up (around 10 minutes!) and the over-bath shower was broken. The shower curtain had definitely seen better days. Anything metallic was covered in rust.

The breakfast is abysmal. I'm not sure the sausages even contained any meat! There was no fruit (unless you count the tinned prunes). The bread was stale and the (concentrated) fruit juices and milk were almost lukewarm.

There was one waitress at breakfast and she did her best to keep things ticking over nicely. Apart from the girl who gave us our room key, she was the only member of staff we saw during our stay.

This hotel has definitely seen better days. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in this area, there are plenty of other hotels who offer higher quality and value.

Thank you for writing your review. We are disappointed to hear your did not enjoy your stay at the Torbay Court Hotel. Our refurbishment is well under way with all bedrooms redecorated and carpeted, new wall lights have just been installed and we are about to start replacing all the bathroom suites. We value all the comments we receive as they help us to continue improving our services and standards, however, should any problems be reported to our staff we would strive to ensure that any problems are dealt with immediately or alternatives offered. We get many compliments on our food but should a problem be brought to the attention of one of the restaurant staff we would happily offer an alternative.
We hope that you will return to the Torbay Court again in future.
